Half-Life 2 owners can download a free Half-Life 2 RTX demo from Steam, built with RTX Remix, starting March 18. The demo showcases Orbifold Studios’ work in Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt ahead of the full game’s release at a later date.

Been waiting a good long while for HL2 RTX to come out. I've been through HL2 a few times, and some years ago I was thinking it would soon be time for another playthrough. Then when I saw they were making an RT version, I said I would wait for that.

The demo will let me know how badly this thing is gonna brutalize my machine, LAWLZ! Cuz Portal RTX at 1440p was real rough, and I had to use DLSS in Performance mode, which looked like @ss.

Yeo, I forgot about it until I was leaving for work this morning and saw a reminder email from Steam. Ought to be fun to tinker with this coming weekend.

Not sure if it's just a demo or the full game. I think it might just be a demo (as the article mentions) with a couple levels available. Also:

So make sure you GPU driver is up-to-date. As for me, I'll handle this tomorrow.

EDIT: Oh yeah, after installation the size of the game is just over 44GB. I'm assuming most of that is the new textures and other new assets, cuz we all know original HL2 fits on a regular DVD.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm on 472.16 or somesuch. I've been using the NV app a lot since it's really convenient for DLSS overrides and figured why not and updated a week or so ago when they made a new driver to fix those black screen issues some folks were having with RTX cards.

Yeah so I got confused, because even though it was last week or so when they announced a demo on March 18, they suddenly made it kinda seem like the full version had come out. I wasn't paying too much attention. Anyways a friend played it, and said it's only two specific levels (one of which I am not a fan of). So yeah, a preview of what's to come. Cuz as I understand things, there is still a full version coming out right?

I saw a Steam user review where the person said they had to use DLSS Balanced with their 3080 Ti at 1440p just to barely get above 60fps. I recall with Portal RTX on my 3090 I was only able to get playable framerates using DLSS Performance mode, and the image quality was @ss.
