Some people fell for an online prank a few days ago. Parody twitter account, @DicsussingFilm, claimed cancellation of the Obi-Wan based series. Apparently they were none the wiser to the deliberate name typo or disclaimer in the bio.

Disney Plus started its new streaming service by announcing new exclusive content and scored an instant success with The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian takes place before The Force Awakens. Set between episodes 3 & 4 Obi-Wan will focus on the 19-year time span of those eras. Ewan McGregor is also an executive producer the show. Disney has not announced a release date yet.

19 years of being a hermit on Tatooine? I’ll definitely watch, but I’m skeptical on how they can make this make sense and entertaining.

If he didn’t cut himself off from the force more or leas, he’d have been found. If he goes out too much, he’d put his mission in jeopardy. Couldn’t exactly run around brandishing a lightsaber in mos eisley and the empire not catch on.

Too true on all those points. Might be interesting how they write themselves out of it, assuming they don't try to retcon something.

There are plenty of 'cannon' ways for a force user to hide themselves from being detected by other force users. Of course the better at the ability detection or hiding will win in any kind of contest of that sort.

But I think they are just going to redefine how that would happen and how Obi Wan was off adventuring/hiding from force hunters. Maybe even having a show down with a group or two of force hunters.

I strong expect after order 66 or whatever it was that Obi Wan had some troopers side with him and he will have a squad of specialists with him. Look at the animated series for some inspiration of Obi Wan's abilities.

I don’t disagree. Yoda was on Dagobah for the cave that hid him. Obiwan wouldn’t have to be stationary and babysit entirely either. Should be fun. And since I can’t really have any expectations here, it’s hard to really get disappointed.

Heard rumors that the show will basically be a Star Wars-inspired take on Cheers. You're going to have Obi-wan working undercover at the Mos Eisley tavern serving drinks and yukking it up with the regulars (think a Woody-type).

I’m going to keep an open mind but I can’t imagine anything like that working well

Reducing the number of Jedi makes detection less likely. Even Yoda pulling an X-Wing out of the swamp and training Luke didn't exactly bring the Empire to his doorstep. It's not simple use of the Force that brings the Empire to you. It's largely running around and killing Stormtroopers with a lightsaber and attracting attention in the traditional sense. That brings inquisitors first, which frankly get pwned pretty bad by a Clone Wars era Jedi. We saw this when Ahsoka took on two Inquisitors at once very easily. Obi-Wan is that same caliber of Force user, and I think a lot of inquisitors would have to go missing for someone like Vader or the Emperor to notice.

If Vader is a constant threat that never materializes (which he would have to be right? Just can't be a focal point story wise.) that will make the story kind of meh. We all know that eventually Obi Wan drops his defense to become one with the force and distract Vader from the fact that his 'SON' is right there. Covering the adventures SANS Luke would be interesting. Clearly this is after what I will call the 'Lava incident'. So Anakin might be super angry and finding his feet again. As opposed to the unstoppable force he will become.

I truly hope that doesn't come to pass. Sounds awful and I loved Cheers but don't want that here.
