NVIDIA has confirmed that Portal with RTX, a breathtaking re-imagining of Valve's classic 2007 puzzle-platform game with full ray tracing and DLSS 3, is now available through Steam and free to all Portal owners.

I've seen some articles that have it as the most demanding RT game out there.

It runs at a solid 4K 30FPS in "High" and 20FPS in "Ultra" on my system (3080, 5900). There's a crapload of options to play with. Still very buggy and temperamental - the new graphics settings are all moved to the "Reflex" menu (Alt-X). The old settings are still there, but if you monkey with them you get strange things happening.

I had it up to 70FPS forcing DLSS into performance, but most of the options tweaks I was playing with actually got to the point of making me feel motion sick though - a lot of temporal effects and it makes screen movements feel like it's underwater or moving through jello. But if I stuck to the defaults, it would run without that. So I stopped tweaking on it before I threw up on my keyboard, but would love to hear if you guys have any settings tips that are helpful.

It definitely looks prettier - although there is only so much you can do with an ancient game.

Maybe I'll give this a shot when I get home. Definitely curious how my 5800X3D/3090 Ti will cope at 4K.

Well, for some strange reason I had to install the latest driver 2x before it worked correctly. The first was preventing the boost clock from engaging. After that it was happy. At 4K using high/performance, I was getting 50-60 FPS. Can't seem to get Afterburner's OSD to work with it so I was stuck with the Steam frame counter. Tomorrow I'll see if Precision X1 OSD will work and get some metrics. Also noticed a weird thing at one point where Alt-tab activated HDR instead of the game doing it at launch even though it's turned on in advanced options. Also noticed a bunch of the advanced options would reset or not stick at all and it kept saying hardware DX level as 7.

Visually, it's interesting but I'm not sure if the effects warrant the huge demands. I need to do more tinkering to get a better handle on the various ways to get a more dramatic image quality uptick rather than just putting it on Ultra, which while did improve it, was like adding a horse trailer to a VW and did not feel like an equitable improvement to warrant the drop in frames.

23GB download for a 2007 game -lol.

It's definitely a paid advertisement for DLSS 3.0 / RTX 4000 - they have cranked everything to absurd levels just to crush performance and try to make a case for upgrading to DLSS 3.

Yeah those 4k numbers don't look so great.

Yep, I actually read this review when the game didn't seem to be working right after the 1st driver install. At that time I was getting around 10 FPS and then I began to wonder and ran a quick canned bench (HZD) and noticed the boost clock didn't engage.

Coincidence - the 4090 with DLSS 3 just barely cracks the magic 60FPS barrier.

I have a feeling they could have tuned it to hit any number they wanted to.

I was looking at the developer menu and wondering what I could tweak there, except I'm somewhat clueless of most of the settings. I definitely feel they needlessly overloaded it on the RTX side though.

Mine fluctuates between 74FPS and 80FPS in quality setting with DLSS 3.

I'll add that I did a DDU pass before doing a clean reinstall of the driver. That got things working quite a bit better!

Also, there's another 4090...
I admit I usually roll the dice and choose custom settings for a clean install. Most of the time it works out but maybe 1 or 2 times a year this happens.

"another 4090" -hmm cable thing?

Had to go back in the thread to get the context. Yep, last night while I was reading some Reddits on it I saw it mentioned there's another. I saw the 1st one right away but I'm still pretty early into the game. I only played it for about an hour before going to bed last night.
