Amazon has confirmed that movies and TV shows on Prime Video will include "limited advertisements" starting on January 29, although a new ad-free option, which customers can join for an additional $2.99/month, will also be available on that same date.

The way to stop piracy is to offer a better service than the pirates...

Prime was already worse without this. Oh, who am I kidding? All streaming services offer a worse experience than the alternative. But prime is particularly bad with much of the content being geowalled. Imagine seeing a show you want to watch, the site shows available on prime, but when you sign up it disappears because it is not available in your region. F amazon anyway.
 
How much is an unlimited newsgroup subscription again? Not that it's related or anything.
