VideoCardz has shared the purported specifications for two of NVIDIA’s upcoming GPUs, the GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080. Sources claim that the flagship GeForce RTX 3090 boasts 5248 CUDA cores and a 1695 MHz boost clock, while its little brother, the GeForce RTX 3080, features 4352 CUDA cores and a 1710 MHz boost clock.

You can check out the table below for the rest of the specifications. The GeForce RTX 3090 has significantly more CUDA cores than the current flagship, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (5248 vs. 4352 CUDA cores). Their boost clocks, on the other hand, are relatively more similar (1695 MHz vs. 1635 MHz, Founders Edition). RTX-OPS and Giga-Ray counts are still a mystery...

Interesting.

So, if this is accurate and we are extreme pessimists, and assume that Ampere has the same performance per core per clock as Turing (which is unlikely), then we get:

(5248x1695)/(4352x1545)=1.323

So if this rumor is accurate, the absolute minimum performance increase for the 3090 over the 2080ti is 32.3%, with every increase in so called "instructions per clock" only increasing that figure.

Time will tell.
