Price creep will only work if AMD does it as well. Unless, of course, AMD's cards just don't perform at the same level as Nvidia's.

Well, AMD also has a $1k GPU this generation.

Not quite as high as Nvidia, they are a few years behind in pricing extremes, but still together they are slowly creeping.
