Twilight actor Robert Pattison has beat out Nicholas Hoult for the Batman role. He’ll be starring as the latest version of the caped crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie, “The Batman,” which is slated for June 25, 2021.

Reeves, the filmmaker behind the last two “Planet of the Apes” sequels, assumed “Batman” directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017. Reeves will produce “The Batman” with his “Planet of the Apes” collaborator Dylan Clark.

Pattison may be best known for his roles in the Twilight movies, but that’s something he wants forgotten, as evidenced by his classy resume of higher-brow, independent films such as The Rover, Good Time, and High Life.

Pattinson is starring with John David Washington in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “Tenet,” set to open July 17, 2020. He toplines “The Lighthouse,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and appeared in Claire Denis’ “High Life,” “The King” for Netflix and “Waiting for the Barbarians.”

Deadline is reporting that Pattison’s Batman film could be the first in a new trilogy. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to Nolan’s attempt.

They’ve got to work out a deal that will clearly include options on at least two more films, but this is considered a formality in a drawn out process. Reeves’ film tracks Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman, which is why they needed an actor in his early 30s.

Interesting.
I think he has the acting chops for the role, and I can see him being an older version of the Bruce from "Gotham".

He'll need to hit the gym pretty hard to be convincing.
