They are good games if you haven't played them yet.

To convert them from a semi-open world, to a complete open world experience that combines all three original games, look for the "lost alpha" mod.

It brings in some areas that were cut in alpha, and combines all three games and makes it even more open, and brings the dynamics of the last game in the series (weapons repairs, mods, etc.) to areas in the first game.

Its really the way to play them.
