Sony has announced new PS5 features for Bravia XR TVs, rolling out by the end of 2021. Auto HDR Tone Mapping will automatically select the best HDR setting, while Auto Genre Picture Mode will automatically switch the TV into the appropriate mode (e.g., Game Mode when gaming). The user won’t have to manually configure the TV when gaming or watching content.

What? This is a new feature? My low end Philips TV will automatically detect the PS4 and switch into gaming mode.
My LG does too with my PC. This just has a couple more extras with auto HDR settings and switching out of gaming mode when playing/streaming other content. Granted my LG pretty much does that as well but I have to manually set it all up beforehand but this is supposed to calibrate for you.

This is for consumers that have more money than knowledge. They want the PSwhatever that's new, and the best TV they can get when they buy and they want them to work together and be amazing. Problem is for them all of that money and installation and they don't know how to configure jack **** on their setup and just say... "Hey this looks/sounds good. I'm happy.".

Case in point when I was a younger man in my 20's my friends parents moved locally. They had a home theater installed with a nice TV and very nice surround sound setup. I happened to know the professional brand receiver they were using as I had the cheaper counterpart. We were all invited over to watch a movie and right after they started it I noticed the receiver was locked into 'all channel stereo' setting. I mentioned that that was wrong. The dad being the blowhard like I described above assured me I didn't know what I was talking about until I said just let me fix it for you it's a setting. Took me 30 seconds to fix it then we watched a movie with the sound working CORRECTLY.

This same consumer would bemoan their purchase but never admit they were never satisfied to anyone else. Saying that home theater sucks all because they don't know WTF they are doing.

So with the advent of the auto configuring TV, and Soundbars... these same consumers can be appeased more cheaply and effectively because it takes configuration out of their hands for home entertainment. And if you've ever had to deal with them on that... you know EXACTLY why this is important.

Also for people like my wife... we have an 12 year old 55 inch 1080p visio hooked up to a decent 5.1 system I put together some 20 years ago. Atlantic Technology speakers for the WIN. Anyway... I'm looking to a Sony TV 60 inch with Soundbar and sub included to replace it all. Then we can move the TV above the fireplace like she so dearly wants. Plus soundbars have finally reached the parity point in performance in my mind at least.

I agree. I still won't use one in our living room but I did opt for a Visio Atmos one last year in our bedroom. I'm very impressed with it. We got a pretty good deal on it and a 75" Hisense Android TV that ultimately came in at just under $1K.
