The process of finding a PlayStation 5 is about to get even harder. That’s according to sources with Bloomberg, which claim that Sony has been forced to reduce the production outlook for its next-gen console due to component shortages and logistics constraints. The original target was 16 million units assembled in the year ending March, but that number’s been trimmed to 15 million.

From Bloomberg:

Logistics issues and parts shortages have grown more severe for Sony, Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki told investors on a conference call late last month. PS5 sales in the quarter ended September were slightly weaker than expectations, he said on Oct. 28, having previously warned that any resurgence in the spread of Covid-19 may impact the company’s components supply. The PlayStation 5 became the fastest Sony console to reach 10 million units sold this...

Cuz PS5 wasn't hard enough to find already. Although honestly I don't know who these people are who buy a console during the first year of its life anyways.

Someone has to ... else there wouldn't be a second year.

PS5 will make a comeback, as most tech will. Most fabs on the planet are doing what they can to ramp up production. From politics to the environment there are challenges but they are doing what they can.

If they were doing what they can they would try and stop scalping and intervene in the silly pricing practices that are going on.

I did manage to get a PS5 a couple months ago, but I had to buy a bundle with some weird game I never heard of b4, an extra controller (which could come in handy given that current gen controllers eem to be crap) and a year of online play which I will only use to get some free games.

Well, the fabs can't control the scalping but I do agree about the companies needing to do more instead of just cashing the checks for products.

Too true. It only went downhill from there as Sony removed features. However, there was also the first 360 and its rings of death.

After owning three or was itn4 different 360s I have sworn off Microsoft consoles. Unless it's a gift I won't be buying another one of their products. Or unless people just consistently rave about how amazing one is maybe.

After a year of never seeing one in stock (apart from the mythical "restocks" where the web sites crash), I've given up on this. Add in the fact there aren't really any great exclusives - for either brand - that really drive me to thinking I ~must~ have one.

Wake me when the inevitable Slim and/or Pro editions come out. Maybe by then I'll be interested again, and by then maybe some version of the things will be actually available apart from the scalper market that I refuse to support.
