As video resolutions, and options, grow, so do their file sizes. It has pretty much always been so. Catching up to the size needs of these new standards is an ongoing challenge for operating systems. In a short span of years we’ve gone from 1080p, to 4k, video recording, and now 8k is in the wings so Android’s 4GB limit has become the next hurdle.

Neowin has reported that efforts are underway at the Android Open Source Project, or AOSP, to solve this problem. Presently the work around incorporates modifying the MPEG4Writer to use a 64-bit setting instead of the default 32-bit. This solution would prevent the file-split from occurring. It is still in the testing phase but they have successfully created, and played back, a 32GB file on a phone and Linux workstation.

8k recording? How about getting good 1080p and 4k first. Both can use improvement in all aspects
.. in everything.
There is a lot that can be done for video that is not higher resolution... Shiiit...

I agree. The push for pixels dominates both T.V. and phone tech. Quality seems to takes a backseat to marketing jargon.
