The folks at Capcom have reason to celebrate as the latest entry in its Street Fighter franchise set some impressive records during its first 24 hours of release. Player engagement for Street Fighter 6 quickly gained momentum as Destructoid (via SteamDB) noted more than 65K players within hours of its release. By the time the day was over, SteamDB reported that the total topped over 70K.

It appears some players had to get some sleep as the player total dropped to just under 47K by the end of its first 24-hour run. Odds are very probable that the total concurrent player count was much higher than this since SteamDB does not include numbers from Microsoft or Sony where it very likely sold an impressive amount of units as well. Meanwhile, IGN noted (via an industry analyst) that it had smashed its way through multiple records for similar types of fighting games.

Another refreshing and rare thing that has happened with the Street Fighter 6 launch is that it appears to be a mostly smooth release. Presently it has a Very Positive rating from nearly 2,000 users on Steam which is also an impressive number for the first day. The most common complaint is that the game uses Denuvo, something that Capcom commonly uses in its games, but otherwise, the game is receiving praise. While not perfect it is still faring better than many other games this year. So far in 2023, this has been a relatively rare occurrence for a AAA title.

Though I wonder what D4's opening weekend looks like.
