YouTuber Gaming with Griff Griffin has shared a neat trick that allows The Ascent players to check out the indie title’s beautiful, neon-lit visuals more intimately. A free camera can be enabled in the game with the use of a tool called the Universal Unreal Engine 4 Unlocker, allowing players to view the game through a first-person perspective.

The results are surprising. Despite being an isometric shooter that’s meant to be viewed at a top-down camera angle from far away, The Ascent demonstrates a surprising amount of detail even up close, well enough to compete with games that were designed for first person.

These would include Cyberpunk 2077. Many Ascent fans have argued that Neon Giant has managed to pull off an even more authentic cyberpunk experience than CD PROJEKT RED’s controversial title, and this new first-person camera mode seems to add...

That looks really good actually. Dev should work in a 1st player mode somehow.

Cyberpunk— the game that should have been good.

Hopefully someone recognizes the demand for entries into the genre and tries again.

I only just heard of Ascent the other day. As soon as I did, I looked it up to see if it was First Person.

Unfortunately it wasn't. I'd totally be on board if they released a first person version, or game mode.

I think Cyberpunk would have been a fine game. Not a perfect game, maybe not even great, but definitely good or at least an OK experience that you don't regret buying.

It was just hyped up to such levels that no game could ever live up to it.

This - I think - is why Valve can never release Half Life 3. No matter what they do people are going to be disappointed.

It was a decent game as a twin stick - it would be ~awesome~ as a FPS

It'd be pretty sweet as a FPS. It's odd that it isn't a FPS and it has that kind of eye candy.

It wouldn't be the first time a franchise changed gears to become an FPS, RPG, or even 3rd person. GTA did it, the first Witcher game had a 3rd person mode but it wasn't on by default and clunky but both franchises went on to become hugely successful after their sequels went through the revamp. Here's hoping this one makes the crossing.

People can only blame themselves for having unrealistic expectations. Cyberpunk is a fine game, more than fine, a great game.
I can only laugh at the nonsensical statement that this somehow puts it to shame, esp. graphically.

It is a bit of a hyperbolic statement, I admit, but The Ascent is a good looking game with an excellent environment and atmosphere.

There's also a bit of underdog praise going on here - Cyberpunk is a huge AAA effort by a well-known studio with a lot of resources and a huge hype machine. The Ascent was put together by 12 people (who do have some resumes behind them) at an unknown startup studio that came almost out of nowhere.

Not to mention the Fallout series!

Honestly, I'm at that point in my life where I know what I like and I don't have the time to waste on things I don't.

As far as games go, I like First Person. I'm not even going to try any game that isn't first person. Haven't since Junior year in college in 2002.

The one and only exception is Sid Meier's Civilization.

If they make a first person version of this I'll definitely give it a try. If not, I'll almost certainly pass.

I'm mostly the same. About 97% of what I play is either 1st/3rd. There are only a very select few games I still enjoy in top-down type setting and even they usually have a sort of hybrid mode.

I admit I still haven't gotten around to finishing it yet, too many other things on my plate but it's coming up soon but I feel it gets way too much hate. Sure it was one of the worst launches in recent years but they did put some effort into fixing it and I feel it's come a long way even though it still has its share of bugs but all games do.
