Ubisoft attracted significant controversy in December when it introduced the beta for Quartz, a new platform that enables players to delve into the seemingly lucrative world of NFTs, but all of the pushback and complaints that the initiative has prompted thus far has stemmed merely from ignorance.

That’s according to Nicolas Pouard, VP at Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovations Lab, who gave his thoughts on the controversy in an interview with price comparison site Finder.com this week and suggested that gamers simply “don’t get” NFTs.

In Pouard’s view, it’s just a matter of time before gamers look past all of the FUD and realize that these digital receipts enable plenty of new opportunities, such as the ability for players to invest in limited-edition items and auction them off for profit once they get tired of seeing them.

“I think...

These companies are doing NFT's so that they can make money on them. Whatever any of us might make is incidental at best. Like most things in quantity the vast majority of NFT's aren't going to be in demand, nor are they going to be worth anything.

They are also saying that "gamers don't get NFT's" because the NFT's they put into Breakpoint haven't sold.

The definition of insanity. They just repeat the same talking points. If they really cared about the environmental impact they'd not implement this crap. They only care that it's a potential new way for for them to make money on. Imagine not just making money off of selling virtual commodities, but also getting a cut of the reselling of those virtual commodities. It's literally free money for them, all they have to do is bash in some gamer heads to get their way.

It's vile and disgusting.

I Don't look for ways to make money on games, I look to have fun. And as soon as making a profit off of it is on the table it gets ruined, not just by bad faith actors, but by shifting focus from making fun games to making games with more potential for second hand markets.

I spend 40+ hours a week working to make money, plus commuting. The video cards that I would use to play games have been coopted to make money from crypto. I play games to unwind from the time I spend making money. **** you, Ubi, for trying to turn gaming into another "side hustle".

I came here to post something like this.

You know what convinced me to stop playing Counter-Strike? When they added skins and a marketplace in CS:GO. It completely ruined the game. Any other game that adds features like this, microtransactions, NFT's etc. that I can't completely disable in game, I'm just not going to play that either, and if it gets to the point that this virus impacts all games, then I'll just stop playing games all together, or maybe just enjoy my existing old single player games in rotation every once and a while when I have forgotten the storyline.

This trend can go **** itself, and if Ubisoft goes all in on it, then they and their games can go **** themselves as well.

What you idiot gamers don't understand is how much money ubisoft can make with next to zero risk. God guys you suck. You see, they sell you the NFT, and they make money, then the price may go up or down on said magical product, then you sell said NFT in Ubisofts market place, and they make money again and again.
Ubisoft will be your benevolent game market government, graciously allowing you to pay them taxes each and every time for each and every transaction.
You pay them to grow their game market (initial sale of the nft, and possible inflation if some items become 'hot' or special edition), and you pay them again to shrink it (fees remove money from the market). If some people make some money because an item went up in price, it doesn't matter to them they will get an even bigger fee (if it is a percentage, if its a fixed fee, expect plenty of items to fall in value below the fee cost, making it part of the needed shrinking of the market).
I mean its just not hard to basically make money on command if you control both ends of the market/economy, you know like billionaires in real life.

Gee Ubisoft is this is such a good way to protect digital assets why not sell your games based on NFT licensing? No... gee why not? Does it NOT make sense for you but for everyone else?
