Xbox Series S Won’t Support Xbox One X Enhancements (4K, HDR) Due to Limited RAM

Thanks to its powerful hardware, the Xbox One X (Microsoft’s previous flagship console) boasts a library of “enhanced” titles that can be played in 4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR. Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One S owners will not be able to enjoy these same perks. While this is a definite bummer, it’s not particularly surprising considering the cheaper console’s weaker hardware and oft-advertised 1440p target.



The good news is that older/backward compatible games will still receive some level of enhancement on the Xbox Series S. These include improved texture filtering, faster loading times, better frame rates, and some level of HDR support.

That's.... strange. I read the new "S" was better/faster/harder than the current "X". This is a marketing move so people don't confuse 4K with XboxSS (whatever the name is today)

The CPU in the Series S is superior to the One X, for sure, but the GPU is 33% weaker. I don't think memory is as big an issue as the GPU in this situation, as the Series S only has 2GB less in total. If I remember correctly the developer shot of Forza Motorsport 7 running on the One X showed it was only using about 4GB for the video displaying at 4K, running at 60 FPS, and with antialiasing. That left 7GB for game resources.
