Dolby has confirmed that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. This makes them the first game consoles in the world to support the company’s preeminent technologies, which increase immersion through dynamic HDR and spatial surround sound, respectively.

As Dolby explains on its gaming page (which now includes a section for Microsoft’s next-gen consoles), Dolby Vision is an HDR imaging technology that allows for 40x brighter highlights, 10x deeper black levels, and up to 12-bit color depth. Now the question is: Will game developers actually put in the effort to support these features correctly, or will they just pull a Rockstar so they can just slap the HDR logo on their game for extra marketing? Totally agree. It's an even greater slap in the face for the PC community. I couldn't even describe how much HDR testing I've done with the 3 different HDR-enabled displays I have using around a half dozen games. The developers are all over the map with it. The experience can drastically change from one display to another as well. By far and wide the best has been the LG C9. It's as close to a plug-n-play solution as I've found yet for HDR. I was even able to enable Dolby Vision in Mass Effect Andromeda @ 1440P/120 Hz/G-Sync. It was awesome! Looking forward to a replay in 4K/120 Hz after I get a 3090 :)

I'm sure either is doable with a firmware update, assuming Sony wants to pay the licensing $$

Or they could just come out with SONY PS5 DTS-XXXXXL 9 DIMENSIONAL sound or some variant/ripoff
