NVIDIA Shield Devices Continue to Get Support a Decade After Release from Passionate Engineers Who Helped Create Them

I've never seen sales figures of the shield, so I don't really know if it's a success or not. Better be after 10 years.

Still, it's one of the best streaming devices ever, most of its competitors are either dead or have been replaced with newer models. Even today, most streaming devices can't match it.

It failed as a gaming console, nvidia's initial push for android tv games fell quickly (there were ports of Doom 3, portal and Jedi knight among others), I think nvidia tried to push it for like a year or so. Still, it's an awesome emulation console running everything under PS2.

I've owned it for like 9 years now. Both controller and remote no longer work because of dead batteries (if anyone knows where to get a replacement battery, please let me know). It has outlasted 3 Smart TVs, actually my wife took years to realize the shield was doing the streaming instead of the smart TV.

I’m really amazed nVidia hasn't f’d this up. I agree this is cool
Nvidia isn't really known for f*cking things up. To be fair this was close to be a failed product as I mentioned it was released as an android gaming console, but it breathed new life as the best streaming console.

I owned the smaller one for a while but didn't catch on with me. I use an AppleTV as a streaming box, and the only thing the Shield did that the AppleTV couldn’t do better was nVidia game streaming

Well, I'm more into the android/windows ecosystem, so NO AppleTV for me. Even after all these years I don't see a reason to get an apple TV, much less replace the shield TV

How many versions are there?

I got two Nvidia Shields I use for streaming. I didn't get the controller for them as I can just use my Playstation controller if I wanted, but the remote controls all have regular AAA batteries.

edit
Oh I see. If you still use the shield then just buy a triangle remote for it. They're apparently the best remotes for the device. I don't know any better since that's all I've ever used on mine.
