Nintendo Switch 2 Official Reveal Is Happening Today as the Long-Awaited Follow-Up Gaming Console Makes Its Debut

I watched part of the announcement video. People in chat on youtube are loosing their freaking minds. Literally impossible to read. And there is very little pomp to the presentation. They are a voiceover away from having a kid in a room just read pieces of paper introduce the next game video. ;)
 
I don't usually watch these kinds of things live, but I did this time. The video in the stream lagged behind the audio, and at one point the video just plain stopped working.

$450 is a tough sell when base PS5 without disc drive is $400, and XBSS is $300 and is probably still more powerful than Switch 2. But yeah I know, Switch 2 is portable.

Nintendo will send the first round of purchase invites on May 8, almost a month after pre-orders go live elsewhere on April 9. The company will roll out more invites before its official pre-orders open to the general public, and if you receive one you’ll have 72 hours to make a purchase. But what makes you eligible? That’s where things get tricky. The priority requirements as listed on Nintendo’s site are: 'As of 4/2/2025, (i) you must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, (ii) you must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months, and (iii) you must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.'"

Has Tensor Cores and RT cores. DLSS has been confirmed. Also has G-Sync VRR.

I mean... as one who opts for the more inclusive packages... I tend to pay that as it is. Sometimes north of 100... but for new gamers... as long as prices drop or as is likely they are in the RMR generating subscription packages.. people won't care.
 
$50 was bad. $60 was very troublesome. The new standard $70 price for 9th-gen games was absolutely insane. Now we are seeing $80 for games for a system that is 8th-gen in terms of power! This is absolutely ridiculous! But I never buy games at launch or at full price anyways. The problem with Nintendo is that A.) they sell old games for full price for a looooong time, B.) their sales never really go below $40, which is hardly a "sale". Meanwhile on PC, games can be 50% off in as little as a few months, and within a year or two you'll see those same games for as little as $5. On Microsoft and Sony consoles, games will fall to 50% price or below relatively quickly. All the big-name games I own on PS4 I paid $10 each for, and those were brand-new physical copies. I've seen PS5's top games already in the $20-$30 range within a couple years. Personally my sweet spot price range for buying games is $5-15. So Nintendo can kiss my @ss. I hope that A.) emulation for the Switch 2 takes off as well as it did for Switch 1 games, and B.) the system gets cracked wide the f*ck open which allows for modding. Playing those Switch 1 games on PC via emulation was a vastly superior experience to playing on the hardware anyways. Nintendo got their hands on some grade A Colombian cocaine, and they are doing copious amounts of it.

Get back to me when the cost to build a top end nintendo system is 5.5k. THEN you have to pay whatever the market will bare for the games themselves.

If you wanna compare Switch 2 to PC, then compare to the Steam Deck, a system of similar power whose lowest SKU is cheaper than the Switch 2, and whose games are on the whole vastly cheaper, especially when factoring in the constant and deep sales I mentioned earlier. Not to mention the Steam Deck is a full-blown PC that is completely open, free for you to use as you wish, just as with any PC.

It also does not take a top-end PC (or anywhere close) to be able to emulate Switch 1 games and have a gaming experience far superior to that of the hardware.
