Three most popular hardware items on Newegg (all three may surprise you!) on Nov 02, 2025

Thats an odd combination for sure. Individually I can reason it out. But otherwise... not really.

The HDD is the real surprise for me. What are people suddenly in need of massive storage for?

Laptop for kid.
HDD as a poor mans NAS for misc media. I've got an external 18 TB for the same.
GPU for gaming rig upgrade.

Honestly though, since I only trust online retailers so far, Newegg could've just made this up to move inventory.

I think it's just their top 3 items, not top combo purchase.

I have trouble believing that a $4k prebuilt and a $1600 gpu are top sales - by volume or revenue.

This looks more like a “we wish these were top sellers so jump on the bandwagon and buy one too” type marketing

I can kinda believe the prebuilt. Got the two things people really want (and most likely don't need) at the moment. 9800X3D and the 5090.

Isn't it just too coincidental that the prior top 3 products were a gaming computer (laptop), a 24 TB hard drive, and a GPU. This second list of top 3 includes products in the same categories, albeit with a desktop instead of a laptop. Coincidence or, as Brian suggests, deceptive marketing? I'd tend to think the latter.

I'm going to have to agree with you here... this is marketing. Because I guarantee if you look at ANY other vendor the 5090 that sells through the most is the cheapest one in stock. Period. Always has been and always will be.

That's for prosumers like me. I WANT a 5090, I don't have anything I HAVE to have it for... so if I can justify the cost to myself I can buy it. IF I can't... then I wait and see what's next or if it becomes more price attractive.

I can tell you I've been looking closer now that there are 5090's at MSRP on the shelf.
