  1. AMD Reportedly Dropping “Big Navi” Prices Following GeForce RTX 30 Series Announcement

I'm pretty sure AMD new Nvidia was going to release first and didn't plan on pricing until after they knew for sure. Seems odd that AIBs don't even have a BOM yet but they know pricing? Seems more likely someone is just making up "news". AMD was never settled on a price and is always going to...
  2. Big Navi Could Come in Both 16 GB and 12 GB Variants

Either that or ddr6 with a 384-bit wide bus and one with a 512-bit wide bus... This seems much simpler as it would mean they can use the same chip for both, just leave some address lines unused for the cut down version. Doing a 384-bit wide ddr6 bus + a single 4GB stack wouldn't make any sense...
  3. AMD Ryzen 9 4950X Has a 4.8 GHz Max Boost Clock?

100mhz is just over 2%, if that gets added to a decent IPC incease then sure. Hopefully the lower end parts will be able to clock similarly.
  4. AMD Ryzen 5 3400G CPU Review

I was hoping for gaming benchmarks with the iGPU... It didn't make sense to buy this if you're using a discrete GPU only. This would be good for htpc or sff build as you mentioned, but didn't see much in the way of testing for those platforms. Gaming vs 9400f would be useful and a better...
  5. AMD Zen 3 Rumored to Double Thread Count per Core with SMT4

Some reading if you are bored... https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/946917-intel-ht-vs-amd-smt-scaling/ Good read on technical differences... Start @ paragraph 5 for details. https://www.agner.org/optimize/blog/read.php?i=838...
  6. AMD Zen 3 Rumored to Double Thread Count per Core with SMT4

I think this will be more useful in server loads and/or hedt than normal at home work loads
  7. AMD Zen 3 Rumored to Double Thread Count per Core with SMT4

They're working on it slowly, Lisa Su said she was focusing on CPU first, hopefully they start putting some of that towards GPUs. I think Navi is a good start (kind of like ryzen 1), but not yet putting lots of pressure on Nvidia. With the 5300 coming out and hopefully a 5500, we will be some...
  8. AMD Preparing Low-Cost Ryzen 5 3500X for Gamers on a Budget

Nice, will able to build some good low cost boxes. Interested in benchmarks on these.
  9. Intel’s Cascade Lake-X HEDT Core i9 SKUs Leaked, 10900X a Minimal Upgrade over 9900x

Does that mean price is getting cut in half? Didn't they say 2x perf/$? If performance is the same, cost must be getting cut right? *crickets*
  10. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

That is a good thing, as it doesn't seem like any loss of performance, so lower voltages seems like an added benefit.
  11. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

I mean, in my mind that's good, they are trying to wring everything out of the CPU by default. I'm seeing less reason to have a regular and X model though as there isn't much differenciating them.
  12. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

I just got a great deal on a b450 gaming itx and a 1600, put it in a small case with water... Thinking it may be time to upgrade the CPU to a 3600 though (I put it together this last weekend with a fury nano, lol).
  13. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

So, maybe the next question is, what's wrong with PBO? Used to work well on 1k and 2k ryzen, now with pushing everything so close to the brink maybe pbo doesn't have any room to work?
  14. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

Nah, never been a fan of you tube... But hey, keep trying you'll get someone eventually!
  15. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

I can appreciate that, sorry for coming down so hard, just seemed really odd timed since most of the news/complaints came out a few weeks back and being so close to getting the official release. I agree with your assessment and assumed (like most I think) there wouldn't be huge real world gains.
  16. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

It has little to do with not including beta bios... The fact that betas where out meant we would probably be seeing officials soon, which is now confirmed. As I said, this article would have made more sense 2 weeks earlier or 2 weeks later. I know articles take some time, but this was...
  17. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

This was kind of my point... The article was posted at the end of last week, official released are already coming out... ill timed article. Congrats on getting the increased clocks! And as expected, not much in general on real world tests, thanks for the confirmation.
  18. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

Says article was released on the 12th... A few days after leaked bioses started coming out. Just seems this close to knowing for sure if the fix will work or not as an odd time to post this type of article. Had this been posted before AMD said they had a fix incoming would have made a lot more...
  19. What GPU(s) are you running in your main rig?

Just put a portable itx ryzen together with a fury nano, so far does well enough for playing around on.
  20. Editorial: Boostgate: AMD’s Boost Clock Controversy

Did you really post this after beta bioses where available without once referencing what the fix brought? Way to be ahead of the curve on this one, lol. Disappointed with some of the content here, recently came from hardocp because I don't trust much else, but articles like this make me...
