  1. Which x299 board to buy...?

Just want to say - this project has been a complete and utter disaster. Also: Do not buy x299 Designare. Gigabyte might do a good job on their other Designare boards, but this one is NOT good. M2 screws that don't fit (or don't fit with the included heatsinkws), latest BIOS doesn't...
  2. Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, good, bad, or ugly?

Solid board. Have mine in a mixed server/VR system with a 3950X. Works well. With the latest bios at least. Had the usual x570 USB issues and I had a power issue (weird crash off boot on idle) that was rare and fixed fast.

  4. XPG SX8100NP 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD Review

Yeah, check with them, but it may be a drive dyingtoo.
  5. FSP CMT520 Plus Case Review

I HATED building in the Lancool 2 Mesh. Getting everything on the cable side flush enough to get those magnetic latches to close? Never, ever, again. Ugh. Also, link in OP is bad: https://www.fsplifestyle.com/en/product/CMT520plus.html

3960x and a 10980XE in the same room? My friends aren’t that dumb
  7. AMD GPU Availability And Scalping

It's up to you. The 70s are getting a bit easier to snag, as are the 6800s- easiest is still the 3090, of course, but I can try if you want me to. But you're right - prices have gone up, quite a bit. My most recent 6800 cost $1250 after shipping and tax, and that was AT MSRP - the new MSRP...
  8. AMD GPU Availability And Scalping

I’ve had good luck. If you don’t mind paying shipping twice I’ll try to snag you something. Whatcha looking for?
  9. AMD GPU Availability And Scalping

Oh it sucks, don’t get me wrong, but it can be done. Heck, just set the alerts to your phone. Got one of the 6800 that way... What card are you looking for?
  10. AMD GPU Availability And Scalping

I've gotten two. Find a good discord alert page and follow it.
  11. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

With the exception of hte video card block (that still scares me, although EVGA apparently warranties cards if something goes wrong after a block has been on it), the rest is actually pretty easy, especially if you use soft tubing. Modern fittings are almost idiot proof.
  12. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

Corsair kit is good and quiet, but expensive. I got mine slightly used and it works great for My gaming system, but I wouldn’t buy it new unless you really love the aesthetic.
  13. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

The concern with putting a block on a card is if I screw up, I can't easily replace the card right now. The cost wouldn't bother me normally, but you just can't ~get~ 3080s or the like easily right now - I'm still hunting for ones for friends. I'd rather wait and pick up a Hydro Copper, and...
  14. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

You running soft tubing or hard? I prefer the look of hard, but I have to admit - that's much harder to work with than soft tubing is (did soft in my gaming machine, although getting a pre-blocked video card has been an amusing nightmare and I'm terrified of taking the stock HSF off since you...
  15. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

I’ve got time before this build happens, if you wanted to test one... and I’d definitely trust you guys as a source...
  16. Cooling 10980XE - Noctua DH15, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420MM, or do I really need to go custom water?

Got the CPU, going on a Designaire 10G - 128G of RAM (mixed usage - CAD and 3d design some, might run a 3d printer, some server workloads in the background, possibly occasional light gaming if I feel weird). Trying to figure out how to cool it - with my Threadripper, I just chucked the TR4...
  17. Which x299 board to buy...?

Less layout more count. Eventually this will replace the x99 system, which has a minimum of 4 cards: gpu, 10g, and two SAS cards.
  18. Intel Ousts CEO Bob Swan After Only Two Years

Having worked under him, I can say one of the safest rules is never bet against pat Gelsinger. He doesn’t like to lose. This will be interesting.
  19. Which x299 board to buy...?

Sadly the creation and rampage are apparently out of production. I did read the edition 30 review- the slot layout is... suboptimal, given that it only comes with <10g networking. Hmm..: I thought it had been the 299 deisgnaire, rather than the 399. Interesting.
