The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, a next-generation processor for gamers that AMD introduced in October based on the "Zen 5" architecture and utilizing 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology, has been difficult to find at retailers partially because Intel failed to deliver a worthy competitor, according to new statements that Frank Azor, the chief architect of gaming solutions and gaming marketing at AMD, shared during an interview with press during this week's CES 2025 event.

Well, I checked this morning and there was a legit seller who had them in stock for $449 on Amazon and coincidentally so was the mobo I'm interested in but I held off because I want to see how things play out with the 9950X3D along with the particular 5090 I'm keeping an eye out for. Word has it that this month is the latest round of restocks so those wanting just need to keep looking.

But wait ... you have to look both ways before crossing the street. How does nVidia's product affect AMD's availability?

Just curious which one you're looking out for?
It'll be another MSI Liquid Suprim or something similar unless another manufacturer offers a liquid-cooled model that performs better. I know that Asus and Gigabyte offered more power on the previous gen but the liquid suprim really impressed me with its cooling ability.

He's not wrong.

That's a new marketing spin

"Our availability sucks because you aren't buying the competition."

Seems ... I mean, backhanded at first glance, but the more I think about it, the more it seems like Frank is telling you to just go out and get an Intel.

Maybe he realizes that competition is good, and loosing intel would be bad for the market as a whole. Nvidia is already flirting with coming into primary compute more.

It's a good humorous poke IMO.

And from a gaming standpoint, it's absolutely true - Intel pulled off a serious footgun with Arrow Lake, despite it being a decent advance in terms of productivity and efficiency versus Raptor Lake.

I would love a version from nearly anyone that comes with a water block for custom loops. Based on what I've seen of the founders edition, unless the 3rd party manufactures use a single PCB in their designs then it may be a bit challenging with installing a water block on them.

I saw that msi has a waterblock version.

It was one or many ces videos. Let me google.

Seems o mis remember but I did find this.

I can't wait for Gigabyte to make all 5 of them. I expect a repeat of the 4090 version of this card that was unobtanium because they made so few.

I'll put this out there. I live near a Microcenter. I'm not looking to go get in line at 4am but once availability stabilizes I have no issue running to grab something time to time for one of your more distant and shipping it across.

I'd be willing to do the same. MC is like 30 minutes from me. And, yeah, not going on release day. Nope.

What is this mythical MC you speak of? I hear tale of pilgrimages to such places. Nearest one to me is over 6 hours away.
Microcenter where I can walk in TODAY and buy a 9800x3d CPU. They are showing 25+ in stock for in store purchases.

Just as an example. It's the mecca that fry's tried to be but diversified themselves into bankruptcy over.

Ah Gigabyte, not MSI. Probably why I couldn't find it. Hopefully being custom water it wont be as hard to find, but IIRC the 4090 version of this was made in such small quantities that it was impossible to buy anyway.
