Well I haven't confirmed it myself, but a gaming buddy of mine has the Steam version and hosts a couple servers through the steamapp. He got the free version on EGS and went looking for his server, but he wasn't able to find it.
The EGS version showed somewhere around 150 servers while the Steam version listed over 2k.
I plan to test it myself when I get home from the beach later. I'm kinda wondering if you can just edit a ini file to ping the "steam" masterserver to see the server list. If that doesn't work, then I'll try a direct connect to his servers IP and see if they block the EGS game version.
Seems really dumb to do this sort of thing in 2020.
