A $5 million class action lawsuit has been filed alleging the camera system is vulnerable to cyber-attacks. This event follows after four families recently reported their systems having had unauthorized access. Vox/recode has reported that much of the lawsuit regards Amazon’s knowledge, or lack thereof, about Ring’s susceptibility and not implementing enough security measures.

Recode reported on an email sent out to users after one of the incidents instructing customers to strengthen their password security. Ring’s advice included changing passwords to activating two-factor authentication. According to ABC News the lawsuit charges that Ring’s security did not ‘compel’ users to use two-factor authentication. Additionally it has mentioned how hackers have hosted live podcasts of these activities. Ring has stated that it has not had any data breaches but they have not commented on the lawsuit.
