Crysis Remastered Trilogy 65% off on GOG for $17.31

Isn't this the one where the remasters made the game worse by being based on the console version instead of the PC version?

Yes and no. The 2nd game had major texture updates. All three had RT effects added with/ DLSS support, and the 1st one also got HDR support. Basically they were an update for PS5, which was a bit of an upgrade over the originals. Although if anyone doesn't like these upgrades then the 64-bit version of the first game is also on GOG.

Yeah. The first game was ruined by being based on the old console versions, so it didn't have the same level of physics and destruction, and there were other odd issues here and there. The remaster was also missing a level that they added in later (that level was not in the old console versions, but it was in the original PC version). Sure there were improvements in the remaster, like heavier foliage, longer draw distance, RT stuff (some of which was software-based), better multithreading support, improved textures, etc. But there was one thing that really killed it for me: the lack of quick-saving and manual saves. Now it was only checkpoint based. I still went through the remaster like that, but it was a lot more painful. I paid less than $2 for the Crysis 1 remaster, and I got a refund! I finished the game using a friend's copy.

Original Crysis 2 was already ruined by a more console-centric design, so the remaster really is an improvement on the game. The fundamental issues with the game are beyond what a remaster can address. I don't really care for Crysis 2 so I didn't bother with the remaster.

Crysis 3 didn't need a remaster, but it got one anyways. Haven't gotten to check it out.

I can barely tell any difference at all for the 3rd game. I think there were just some more optimizations and a little RT added in. Sadly, to me, the best part of the 3rd game was playing it in 3D back in the day. The original version was awesome for that at 1440p.

Completely forgot about that! Crysis 2 was the first game I saw running in 3D, if I recall correctly. My friend had one of those early Samsung TN-panel 120Hz monitors that were made for 3D. That was the first time I had ever seen higher than 60-75Hz in an LCD screen. Took him a while to get his hands on the active 3D glasses though. When he did, yeah Crysis 2 was kinda neat in 3D. I think his screen was only 1080p though.

I've still got my ASUS 27" 144hz 1440p 3D G-Sync. That was the best 3d display I ever had for gaming (3D refresh for it maxed at 120Hz). These days though it's a total PIA to get a rig setup to play 3D, have to reinstall my old 2080 Ti and then do some overrides and reinstall the last NV driver that supported 3D to get everything to work correctly. It's a shame because right around 2015 3D gaming had really hit a peak in terms of quality but that's when NV pulled the cord on it to focus on RT.

I have been keeping an eye out for those glasses free displays but between price and size I'm not really interested. At this point I wouldn't want a desktop display at less than 32".

From what I understand, its only worth it for the Crysis2 remaster and to lesser extend Crysis 3. You are better off using Crysis 1 with mods.

I had no idea they remaster 2 and 3 *slips back under rock*

I have the OG version on GOG, which mods do you recommend? If it's too tall an order I understand.
