Cyberpunk 2077, the sci-fi RPG that CD PROJEKT RED launched on December 10, 2020 to enormous ridicule for bugs and other problems but slowly made its way back into the hearts of gamers with various updates, including the 2023 expansion, Phantom Liberty, may no longer be getting any additional content, according to a new earnings report from the company that can confirm nobody at CDPR is working on the game anymore.

That's a shame, I been playing this for the last couple of days and have seen some bugs in the conversation system where all options show up twice.
 
IF they release the modkit like they did for Witcher 3...that would help squash many bugs later on. I want Panam backing me up with that Overwatch in all missions.
 
I mean, development has to end sometime. With the expansion out and most of the game's worst issues resolved I think this makes sense from a business standpoint. The game is far from perfect, but ROI just isn't there for them.
 
It's a shame they decicded to not do any further expansions. The environment is huge, with many unexplored parts of the lore. The game could support it.
 
There are so many unfinished parts to the game map it is fascinating. And kind of annoying at the same time that they abandoned all these things. Exploring out of bounds areas just makes me sad. It would be better in a way if they didn't exist at all, than existing in this limbo, somewhere between placeholder level and almost fully completed. And then there are the areas that are fully polished but never used, and you can explore them by wandering but following the missions you'd never end up there. By my estimate the map of CP2077 is about 30-40% completed.

I'm honestly surprised they at least managed to get the train system working. I've yet to play the game (I own it, just haven't felt like getting into it yet), but friends have shown me around the city, including the unfinished parts and features. So I knew about the train system for years, and was surprised to see they actually went back and completed it.

And kind of annoying at the same time that they abandoned all these things. Exploring out of bounds areas just makes me sad.

Not really. It's still not fully implemented. You can't actually get into stations and on trains. All they did is make it into a worse fast travel system. You walk up to the entrance of a station then you are teleported directly to the train into a cutscene. You can't even move around on the train. And when you want to "get off" the cutscene ends and you are teleported back to a station entrance.

But as you zoom past the tracks in the cutscene you can actually see half finished stations, that were originally meant to be walkable. But they also added new ones that just serve as decoration for the new system, these don't even have collision if you try to get there you just fall through the floor.

But you can cheese your way up to the tracks even without using cheats and walk to many stations and enter them, some even have working doors and vending machines. And you can also surf the trains if you time your jump right. Unfortunately there are invisible walls littered all over so you can't ride the entire line properly.


My friends who played it have basically said the same thing.
I'm hoping they reuse the map for the next game with all the missing parts added.

Doubtfull given that they changed to a different engine

Would be cool though to get a different game in the same city they could add a lot of easter eggs to the original game.

I think they overestimated what they could add to the game in the time they had and had to spend too much time fixing their lmessy launch stopping them from adding more content.

It's also something that bothered me in vanilla World of Warcraft where there was some unused placeholder stuff for the longest time.

Many games have evidence of cut content, but the only game that comes close to the amount that Cyberpunk has is Mafia 2.

I'm not quite sure exactly what it is you are talking about, but honestly, some of the unused buildings and assets that still had evidence of considerable work going into them was one of the things in Cyberpunk that made the world feel more alive to me.

Like,. yeah, there is this building there, but it isn't relevant to the task at hand.

Made it feel more like real life in a way, and gave the world a certain "largeness".

Maybe that was unintentional, and they intended to use all of these places if development had proceeded the way they had intended, but it still worked. At least for me.

As I already explained in my previous post, I meant areas that are not normally accessible that have hints of what might have been. Like some building in corpo plaza have working elevators and a few rooms that exist. Or the aformentioned ncart stations and other walkways that are inaccessible normally. But the most famous and well known cut content is probably the casino. There is also a placeholder model for the arasaka aircraft carrier hat you only see if you use noclip and freefly mods to fly out to sea, as it is LOD gated, not that it has any LOD it even lacks any textures. Strange that instead of removing it completely they just made it invisible from the shore.

But there is so much stuff like this from small to large, that entire youtube channels have been dedicated to exploring them.

Interesting. I never really came across or was bothered by anything like that i normal play.

I do remember the Arisaka aircraft carrier being mentioned on one of the news broadcasts in game.

Maybe they thought they were going to be able to fix it and bring it back in a later expansion or something, so they just left it?

I never knew it was NOT actually in the game when playing it for the first time, it was only in the back of my mind to check it out, but I never actually did. Then I was reminded of it 3 years later when I saw a random YT video about it.

I think the more likely explanation is that in the rush to get the game ready it was easier to just wall of and hide stuff than to actually remove it. I don't think they had any concrete plans back in 2020 about what they should add back later. Either way Phantom Liberty did re-instate some major locations. Like the spaceport, or dogtown.

Paradox would disagree that development needs to eventually end. How many Stellaris expansions have there been?
