It’s barely been a week since the pilot debuted, but Warner Bros. and AT&T have already pulled the plug on DC Universe’s Swamp Thing. Quality doesn't seem to be the issue, as the show has received positive reception thus far.

The initial rumor was that North Carolina made an accounting error that led to a loss of grant money (Swamp Thing was shot in Wilmington, NC), but the real reason for the cancellation may have to do with AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner (now WarnerMedia). The new leadership is working on a new streaming platform that calls for a complete re-evaluation of DC’s streaming service and its content.

DC Universe is being reevaluated following the completion of AT&T acquisition of Time Warner as WarnerMedia has put an emphasis on the launch of a new streaming platform. There have been questions how DC Universe fits into those plans. There already had been chatter that new leadership of WarnerMedia was not particularly high on Swamp Thing whose order was reduced from 13 to 10 episodes in April. The cancellation comes just one episode into the show’s run.

Honestly, I found the first episode fairly boring. The second was a little better, but I can't see how they could really stretch this into an ongoing series for years on end. It just doesn't seem that interesting. The horror elements that have worked so far, can't be kept up indefinitely.

Aw f**K. Not a huge fan of this show but we just got DC streaming and loving the whole service as is. I really hope they don't jack this thing. I'm being blunt but honestly the service is fine as is. We binged thru Titans and taking it a bit slower with Doom Patrol. I personally love how we can get the plethora of animated content and read comics if we want. I was just telling someone how it's another example of good non-theatrical efforts of DC. AT&T don't screw this up. Leave it. It's got fine direction for the most part.
