First Images of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City Released, Teasing Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and S.T.A.R.S.

IGN has shared the first exclusive images for Screen Gems’ upcoming live-action Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.



One of the images gives Resident Evil fans an early peek at what two of the franchise’s most popular characters, Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia) and Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), will look like in the new adaptation directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down).



Another image shows off the S.T.A.R.S team, which includes fan-favorite members such as Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen) and Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell). There’s also a shot of Lisa Trevor—a mutated villain that should be familiar to those who played the Resident Evil reboot.



The most apparent thing about these photos is how the actors don’t look anything like their iconic counterparts. Leon and Jill, in particular...

At this point it seems like they are doing the changes on purpose. How hard can it be to use Claire Redfield's og hairstyle? And wasn't Leon light brown or dark blonde? Whatever.

Seems like their way of saying we can't get away with a non inclusive cast in this day and age regardless of the original source material

What does inclusive even mean at this point? "We need to shoehorn in one of every race gender and sexual orientation whether it fits or not" Like ticking off boxes on a checklist. All coming from the completely misguided idea that in order for audiences to accept something they need to see themselves in it.

basically yes, maybe Stallone will be bisexual in expendables 4 or something so he can have a threesome with Dolph and Megan.

If the char fits the story fine, but these days it's getting ridiculous.

Well i don't know how the game characters look, but I don't think it matters too much, the comment about the energy is true and more important.

You can go on and on about the casting choices, but these promotional images certainly bode well for the movie. The images all look quite authentic compared to the games. And I am quite excited to see Kaya Scodelario as Claire. What ultimately matters is if the story matches the source material since it's getting harder and harder to escape diversity quotas.

I'm still looking forward to this. I have some doubts and hope alike. The one I'm finding to be utterly ridiculous is Dune. Seriously did that material need as many character changes as they did? Maybe it'll still be a good movie but I'm pretty bummed at the extremes they went to with that one.
