Giant NBA Jam Arcade Console Spotted at CES

I admit the Star Wars one is tempting. By far one of my favorites from back in the day.

Really enjoyed the NBA Jam games, but late in the franchise's lifespan. It wasn't until the N64 version that I got hooked on the series.

Don't like basketball, but that game made the sport fun.

Man I hate that I am not in Vegas this month. I go so often for work but never when its anything like CES.

The reviews of their other cabinets are all over the board. Most complain that the controls are wacky, but that they generally look the part. I think it's a travesty that they only offer a handful of games for each cabinet... I know why, they want to sell more and packing tons of games into just one cabinet won't make them as much money. But some of the youtube reviews... like Pac-man... they could have easily put EVERY type of Pac-man variant, Ms Pac man etc etc etc but they don't...

I am up to speed on emulators so these things are not for me. But for someone who has always dreamed of living in an arcade (ie having a bunch of arcade games in their home), they are kinda cool. Personally I'd rather have a small / bartop one with everything (and I'm building one... slowly).

The Star Wars one... yeah I burned a metric **** ton of hours playing that as a youth. So that caught my eye

That's what has stopped me from getting their stuff - TMNT for example, is a great arcade game to play and it seems like quite a long and awesome experience. Once you have unlimited coins/tokens/credits, you can play through it in about 15-20 minutes. Is it really worth shelling out that much for such a short gaming experience? I'd much rather have a fairly multipurpose cabinet with a ton of games loaded on it. Of course, that'd mean that the configuration/button placement may not be ideal in all cases...

Picade. Only bad thing is you have to search for ROMs.

My brother built me one as a wedding gift - it's in a miniature tabletop arcade cabinet with a 8" screen. The button layout isn't ideal for all games, but it works, and you can plug in a joystick via USB. I want to put it into a horizontal desktop (like the old Pacman cabinets) and use it as a coffee table, install built-in joy and buttons, and then have a USB port to plug in a 360 controller on the side for things that it doesn't work with.

Another project for another day, hopefully it won't cost 10k.

Check out Arcade Punks. They have entire collections of ROM images for lots of platforms. https://www.arcadepunks.com/ be warned, those torrents can take DAYS to download. Just let it run in the background until it's done. Lots of Rpi, PSX, PC/Hyperspin etc stuff.

I got a little "icade" cabinet on ebay for like $30... it's really just a shell you're supposed to plop an ipad into, but it's the right size. Sadly the joystick only works with ipad/icade app, but I bought a USB wiring harness for like $10. Now I'm just trying to find the right size screen to pop (10" LCD monitors are surprisingly hard to come by) in and throw in a rpii for retrocade or whatever. I also have an old laptop I'm considering parting out and using that as a screen and then I can just run mame32 or hyperspin or whatever. But I hate to destroy a functional laptop (even if old and small). Or if you have any kind of woodworking skills it shouldn't be hard to piece a cabinet together.

Microcenter sells this 2 player bartop cabinet thing, $250 is kinda steep but sometimes it goes on sale. You just plop a monitor in it (looks like 24" but hard to tell from pics) and PC or rpii and you're done. Oh well, sticks and buttons too I guess but they sell all that stuff too.

Thanks. I have a 46" LCD LG that I want to drop into one (when I eventually replace it with an OLED), but I'll probably need to build something custom and throw a glass top over it. Appreciate the link - I have a ton of original NES stuff, but not so much of anything else.
