Giga Computing, GIGABYTE's new subsidiary for high-performance servers, workstations, and mini-PCs, has forecasted the power consumption demands of some of new CPUs and GPUs that Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD are planning to release in the years ahead. According to the roadmap, CPUs that are released by 2024 or 2025 will draw as much as 500 to 600 watts, while GPUs will be similarly demanding, with certain GPUs from NVIDIA expected to draw as much as 700 watts. NVIDIA's Grace CPU+GPU combo is also shown with power consumption figures of up to 1,000 watts. Giga Computing recently launched a new ultra compact PC kit called the BRIX that features 13th Gen Intel Core U-Series mobile processors, including the GB-BRi7H-1355 with Intel i7-1355U.

We really as consumers need to demand efficiency. This every growing power creep is getting stupid. Soon enough the only computers you'll be able to run at home are laptops and tablets. Anything else will require a specific power installation to be able to run.

You know how when you buy an EV you have to get a charger installed at your home? Now we're gonna need a special, dedicated power station with custom power cables installed in our homes to run our desktop PCs.

That's what I've been saying in watching the current top-tier CPU/GPU race. Hobble together an overclocked 13900K and overclocked 4090 and things already look pretty scary. Throw in a 40-55 inch high-end display and that can add upwards or over another 100+ Watts on top of it all.

You know I'm wondering if this is the goal. Short of GPU manufacturers... how many consumers cycle through laptops. Manufacturers want people buying laptops and swapping them out every 2-3 years in whole to get in on that recurring revenue that the stock market so strongly desires.

Samsung is already offering what equates to subscription based laptops. You can get their Samsung Ultra laptops for around 140 a month for 2 years. Just in time... to get the next next one. Just like their freaking phones...
