The new God of War game is real, it looks impressive, and if you only game on PC, you will probably be waiting a long time, or indefinitely. Sony Santa Monica revealed God of War Laufey at PlayStation’s State of Play last night, showcasing 20 minutes of gameplay and confirming that Kratos is sitting this […]

I don't think I'll be missing much given the current state of the Sony story games. Now if they made the game about Frank the gelatinous cube and zany adventures, that might worth a try. On PC of course. Who would buy a PS6 or 5 for that weak lineup?

Piss off players into grudgingly getting the PS5 Pro or PS6!
That doesn't work though. It's not gonna convince me to get a PS5. The most it will do is cause me to borrow both a PS5 and the game from a friend. And if I couldn't, then I just wouldn't play the game. Either way Sony isn't getting my money. The only way they will is if I can buy the game for PC.

I've had consoles every generation since the Atari 2600. I'm done. I don't wanna get any more. I just wanna play all those games on PC.

With consoles I had a rule: there must be at least 5 must-have exclusives on the system for me to even start thinking about buying the system. PS5 already lost there. Even if Sony keeps their games on PS5 from here on out, all the games I want to play on PS5 so far are already on PC (except one). So yeah a PS5 definitely isn't getting bought.

I don't see people that spent $2-3K on a gaming PC wanting to rush out and buy a $600 console just to play a couple games. If anything it'll create resentment towards Sony for pulling this nonsense.

That's their strategy. Piss off players into grudgingly getting the PS5 Pro or PS6!
If a company pisses me off, then I make a point of not buying their products. I never heard of anyone running to buy the company's product that they just got backstabbed by.

People may do it different ways to make sure the company suffers. They may buy it cheaper second hand. Or they may wait for a bundle deal with more value. What they won't do is pay launch price.

You'd think that but id be wrong I think. People buy from scalpers and crap like that, are boycotts even possible I want to say ' anymore' but have they ever? I dont mean fear of a minor easily substituted product, like I can see if some brand of ham caused like a bunch of deaths, like even children... and in turn that info needs to spread tremendously and be like brand X the plague ham or something, then yeah, I can see a ' boycott' working there, and woulnd even be a boycott per se, more like a backlash... But people reacting and mass change over something like what sony did, nah, no way, many will buy the console if they love the game.

Can you ask AI to make that make more sense please... because wow..

I'm still waiting for Sony to make God of War worth my time on PC. There is only so much im willing to pay for a 20-30hr play it once type experience and I'll say it's a lot less than what Sony is offering.

I paid $10 for brand-new physical copy of GoW4 on PS4. I only bought it on PS4 cuz this was before we found out that Sony was actually gonna start putting their IPs on PC. But yeah not grabbing a 2nd copy on PC for more than what I paid for it on PS4. I'm still waiting for a good sale price for GoW5: Ragnarok on PC, as I've seen the PS5 version get pretty low ($20 and less) multiple times, and that was a few years ago.

No, boycotts never worked. It's just trying to get other people to not buy a product because of your grievances. Backlash however works, because everyone involved is invested in the grievance.

Scalpers are a symptom of scarcity, not the problem itself. If scalpers didn't exist you'd still not be able to buy the product in high demand as it would just be out of stock all the time.

I am afraid, with rising prices (consoles & games), we are looking at a period of exclusivity to induce players to stick with a platform

Exactly and the treshold for backslash seems tremendously high, deaths alone isnt enough, you need that , plus, a lot of information spread.
Lot of grivance with DRM... Yet, what? Nothing, youd think GOG would be massive vs almost going under not that long ago ( still?)
People talk bull, then go buy the PS5 assuming they love that game ( and can acomodate the purchase) im fully nintendo, had a deck and it died and early death sadly, so.I was out of pc gaming again. Grew up pc gaming, physical media death lead to me dropping out of it fully.
People talked, i talked and took action, Gabe is one of the richest persons in the world while not a single user of steam owns a single game and strongly defend it as if steam= pc gaming in some incestuous weird way.

For me as I entered PC gaming before 3d acceleration was even a thing and gpus migjt have 512k of memory on them if you were lucky... and forget.heat sinks..

PC gaming has always been first and foremost about building the PC, then modem, then network, then IOT stuff.. before it was ever about building a PC for a game.

Honestly in large.part it still is. Yes I have an ostensibly top tier PC. And I do indeed game on it and buy new games from time to time.

But for me its largely chasing the tech.

I had a Playstation when ps2 had the cell processors because that was cool tech. I had an Xbox and Xbox 360 because they were interesting from a tech perspective. And I chased the rock band and Guitar hero dragons.

But the real game for me is building my computer system and the parts pieces and research to make it the best I can. Within some.. reason.
