HBO has released the first image for its upcoming live-action series based on Naughty Dog’s hit post-apocalyptic game franchise, The Last of Us. The photo, which was shared via Twitter, appears to be easily mistakable for a screenshot from one of the games, which bodes well for fans who were hoping for an honest and accurate adaptation—visually, at least.

In this case it means the visuals are so bad that it can be mistaken for a videogame. Isn't this supposed to be the most expensive tv series to date? Well it doesn't look like it. That background looks like concept art, not a finished product.

Given the stage of production it is in, it is basically concept art. The odds that it is final release VFX is near zero. They appear to be spending GoT levels of money per episode, so expect similar or slightly better VFX. It's HBO. If you are going to hate it, it's not going to be because of garbage production values.
