Horizon Steel Frontiers Is a Cross-Platform MMORPG Project Being Developed by NCSoft and Guerrilla for PC, iOS, and Android

Yeah I was bit bummed out by the selection shown as well. I'm willing to be open-minded but there was definitely a singular direction on what was shown that I didn't agree with. I don't do MMOs so this isn't for me anyway. Meanwhile about a third way through doing a 2nd play of the first game but this time the remastered version that I got on sale last month. Having fun with that on both rigs in 3820x1600 using DLAA and I do notice the visual improvements.

Let's hope it's an mmorpg and not another mmo pvp game like dune disappointingly was.

What a weird choice to take a hack n Slash single player story driven franchise and then go the MMO route.

Having engaged with none of the marketing material around this, I'm guessing it does the same thing all MMOs generally do and loses the hack n Slash gameplay for pseudo real time turn based combat?

I'd not call either games hack&slash, they are basically 3rd person action rpgs. Especially the first was quite mmo-esque. The second was more linear, but maybe that opens up later as well, I didn't get far into it, the cringe feminist propaganda and bad dialogue made sure of that.

I don't remember any of that... I do remember an... interesting moment at the end of the second game, but it was a choice that the player made, so, whatever?

(I grew up on science fiction, so I guess I don't even notice this kind of 'feminism' that's mostly just strong female leads?)

-"Action RPG" is basically anything nowadays, it doesn't really describe the gameplay.

Hack n' Slash or Brawler fit a little better, probably third person shooter given the relative focus on ranged combat.

Regardless, MMO's are all real-time turn based and all about cooldown management and ability bars because the netcode just cannot deal with the latency and syncing issues of "Action RPG" gameplay even today. Whatever you call it, it would have to play radically differently than the mainline series.

IDK what sci-fi has to do with it, unless you want to say strong female leads are science fiction :D
just strong female leads?)
This is just a cheapshot used to shut down conversation by progs. "Oh, so you don't like strong female characters?" Implying that the person is a sexist. But it doesn't stand up to even the most basic scrutiny. Does the first game not have a strong female lead, or what? Then how come I liked that, if this is the 'true' reason for my dislike of forbidden west?

Look, if you didn't notice a step down in quality of writing from the first game, that's fine, I'm not telling you how to enjoy or whether you are allowed to enjoy the game, I'm telling you why I didn't like it, that's it.

From the gameplay trailer the game looks like PvE rather than PvP and it seems to play the same way as the single player games.

cringe feminist propaganda
I definitely noticed some but it wasn't bad enough to put me off the game and I was still able to enjoy it. I used to called the 1st game, Mad Max - Xena edition. ;)

However, compared to what Disney has done with SW, I find these games closer to a middle ground as there are still some non-playable male lead NPCs who are not portrayed as complete idiots. Some surely are but there's more than a few that I can relate to in a good way.

It's PC also, the question whether it will look the same on PC.
PC/Mobile are almost always crappy mobile ports in a Windows wrapper. There are a few exceptions - but not many great ones to point at. Most of the time the interface is still meant for touchscreen, they just throw the mouse pointer at it

This could be going from bad to worse. Not doing a post on this yet as there's not enough to back it but in the meantime, a 3rd game might not be happening and the reason this isn't getting a PS5 release it that Guerrilla is rumored to be making its own MMO instead.
