James Cameron Might Not Direct Avatar 4 and 5

I heard it was basically Dances with Wolves in space. I passed on it after hearing that.
Pretty much. I never heard anyone say that until after I'd already been telling co-workers the same.

I wish someone had told me something about that dang movie before I and other friends wasted IMAX money to see it.
My condolences for the lost time and money for all.

I think I need to say it a different way in regards to avatar. Much like porn, if you watched it for the story, you probably missed the point.

I think the point people are trying to make to James Cameron is valid. When a movie is more of an "experience" than anything, its not particularly memorable in the long run as technology improves and the bar for those types of visual effects experiences constantly gets raised. For me, the first Jurassic Park wasn't all that good. However, seeing it in the theater was an experience. Fast forward a couple of decades later and I recall very little about the movie. More than that, it's easily eclipsed by the experience of going to an average Marvel, JJ Abrams or Alex Kurtzman movie.

I completely agree with people when they say that the Avatar had next to no cultural impact and barely left an impression beyond that single experience of seeing its visual splendor in the theater. While I've never seen the whole movie I did see parts of it on a 80" TV at a friends once. While some of the visuals still stand up, the CG character stuff doesn't. Once the visuals become dated, those movies designed to be a visual experience will not age well and they can no longer achieve the one thing they set out to do in the first place.

It was an ok IMAX experience, it just wasn't a good movie. The entire thing was made to sell 3D TVs, and it did do that for a few years.

People didn't believe me when I said it was a gimmick. Until 3D TV's can do 3D without a need for the users to wear glasses or head gear, it will never stick around. It's a novelty that runs its course quickly and every time. 3D has come and gone several times in the last four decades I've been alive and did so before that.

But you are right, I remember seeing Avatar playing on the display TV's at Fry's Electronics many times over the years.

Cameron will be dead by the time 4&5 would get made.

I've heard his next project after Avatar 2&3 is a Titanic sequel.

Some day . . .It's something I follow since I am interested in but man that's a slow-moving boat.
