Deep Silver has rolled out next-gen updates for Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light Redux editions, adding 4K textures, bug fixes, and numerous QoL improvements. Announced a few weeks ago, these next-gen updates are the developers’ way of thanking fans and the gaming community for supporting the franchise over the decades, while prepping these titles […]

Oh interesting, supports the Impulse Triggers (aka "rumble triggers") of XB1 and XBSX|S controllers, and the Adaptive Triggers of the DualSense controller. I guess handy for those who actually play a first-person shooter with a controller. I'm not one of those.

Really appreciate all the work 4A Games puts into their old games. Free upgrades for everyone, and better compatibility and performance for newer hardware and OSes. Also traditionally their games have run better in Linux than in Windows. 4A Games is definitely the kind of developer one feels inclined to support with their cash.

...newer controllers such as DualSense 2 are now supported...
Lawlz, what the f*ck is that, the PlayStation 6 controller? Is it out already?

Aaahhh, a newer revision. But not actually called "DualSense 2". Mine is a CFI-ZCT1W, which looks to be the original launch model. I bought it a few months ago. I guess there's a lot of the older revisions still floating around. I usually try to go for later revisions of controllers for each generation. However DualSense controllers are so f*cking expensive that I had to grab what I could when I finally found a "decent" sale. I'm glad they updated the controller though, as the battery life is absolute @ss. Just like with DualShock 4 and 3, and XB1 and XBSX|S controllers, and every controller Nintendo made for Switch 1 (and probably their Switch 2 controllers as well).

X360 controllers had decent battery life. But none will match the Nintendo WaveBird, where you could get 90-100 hours from two AA batteries. Those things didn't have rumble support though.

I recently completed a play through of the first game, GOG version so no real interest in replaying it again right now but since DLSS5 was added to both, I ended up testing Last Light Redux and was blown away. I mean, between the texture upgrades, DLAA and DLSS5 it was like playing it for the first time and honestly, to me, is better than a lot of remasters out there. I've played this game probably at least a dozen times since it came out and was really shocked at how good it looks now. I was somewhat disappointed when the Redux versions initially came out because they replaced some of the character models and I didn't really like the new ones as, to me, they looked too generic, but DLSS5 takes them a step further and each has its own identity now.

Now I'm fully aware there are a lot of folks out there who experienced various bugs but I'll count myself lucky this time around because I didn't encounter any. Now this on a 3440x1440 display locked at 90 FPS w/ RTX 5090, 5800X3D, 32GB system memory and a Gen4 SSD, while also using the custom power settings for the GPU which I've mentioned at least a dozen times in other threads which kept the GPU to 280-300W and clock rates averaging 2400-2500 MHz. Game has been as smooth as greased lightning and a total blast to play again and I'm still in shock with the visual upgrades. Now, I just wish they'd upgrade Exodus in a similar fashion.

Well gawd daaaaaang man

Just finished playing it and yep, a definite wow factor. Yes, I used a mod for HDR and it would've been nice if they'd included that in the update but otherwise it felt like playing a brand new game. I've played this in 2D, 3D, and now with texture upgrades, DLAA, and DLSS 5 it really felt like a new modern game despite some older models but given how often newer games are no longer pushing the limits it still managed to look fresh. I did end up lowering FPS to 70 just to reign in power draw a bit more which resulted in ~250W for a 5090 doing its thing at 21:9 1440p and everything turned up to max/DLAA. It really was a blast replaying this game like this and truly hope to have more similar experiences with other older titles in this era and while I am a fan of ray/path tracing this was a game which featured some pretty amazing rasterized lighting effects (similar to TW3) that look even better with all the other things happening in this update. There were moments where I knew where lighting and shadows could be improved and others where I felt like I dont't care because it already looks so good.

2D??? You mean in software rendering mode?
Just that the game initially supported NVIDIA 3D Vision and I've played it in 4K in various ways since 3D was dropped. I was always pissed that when Redux launched they didn't really mention how 3D support was dropped but that was also in part to NV removing support in drivers as well. I've got a bunch of posts in other thread giving praise for the original in supporting not only 3D, and SLI, but also the original PhysX. At one point I was running 2x GTX 970s (oc'd of course), a GTX 780 (dedicated PhysX), 4930K (oc'd to 4.3 GHz), running at 4K, "2D" ~60-90 FPS or 3D vision 1440p 120 Hz. I was pretty proud of this but it was shortlived thanks to NV pulling the plug in drivers and then the devs rolling out Redux but this was at the time,
