Microsoft appears to be throwing the playbook out the window as it enters the mobile gaming arena and seeks new profits in other markets.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case

Console development is quite expensive, and in the end, they are sold at a loss at least initially, so it would make sense to let PC builders to make their own and licence "windows for gaming" or something like that. Yes, Xbox PCs could be more expensive, but I imagine pc builders could come up with something for everyone.

Hopefully they learned their lessons from Steam PCs, which rumors say might have a come back.

It would also speed up APU development, we were stuck for years with sub-par APUs because AMD wouldn't release chips that would compete with its console partners.

We could easily have APUs that compete with current consoles. But I'm sure MS and Sony won't allow that.

Fixed it for you.

MS is out of the race now
Cancelling a handheld is not dropping out entirely, their next X-box is still supposed to be the biggest technological leap forward ever (I'll believe it when I see it though)

MS signs another contract with AMD for Xbox.

They've been working with AMD since the X360, I'm not surprised they are gonna continue to work together for future hardware including their 10th-gen consoles.

I think Peter's post was more... No xbox is not leaving the hardware console market thing. Just the handheld, and just for now.
