NVIDIA Warns of A Gaming GPU Shortage as It Prepares to Launch Its GeForce RTX 50 Series

I mean, DUH.

Nvidia still remembers the massive inventory of 10-series GPU's they couldn't get rid of after the mini-downturn in crypto that year when they launched the 20 series. If memory serves they wound up delaying the 20-series launch trying to sell some of them down, keeping low end 10-series on the market for WAY longer than they usually do, and in the end writing off a bunch of them, right?

That's when Nvidia learned what happens if they try to satisfy market demand. IN the end they get left holding the bag.

Right now they couldn't meet market demand if they tried, what with the limited fab capacity and all the different players that want that silicon, the biggest and most profitable of which is AI, but the lesson was learned here, which is why they will always choose a market shortage of their products over risking over-production to meet demand.

As far as scalpers go, they just need to be put down.

It has gone form being a bunch of **** heads looking to profit from a shortage, to even ****tier **** heads creating their own shortages where there were none, by buying up and hoarding anything and everything desirable, unless someone pays the ransom to get one.

I'd like to see them serve hard time in a federal - pound me in the *** - prison.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for those who do the hard work profiting off of it. The manufacturer? Profit all you want. But these scumbags who get in the middle and try to profit off of other people without adding any value just because they cam have no human value what so ever. I know of a pit Governor Noem should take them to.

Manufacturers and retailers don't care. As long as they sell them they don't care who buys them, because they have already made their profit. They'll put together some insincere effort so they can tell everyone they tried, while changing nothing.

It's goddamn bullshit that whenever anything good launches these days, you know you won't be able to buy it for months. I should be able to buy whatever you launch, whenever I want to. It should be sitting on the shelf waiting for me. No mashing F5 hoping for it to come into stock, no signing up for notifications, no camping out in a goddamn line launch night. I won't do that.

If any of the above is required, they have failed to manufacture a sufficient launch quantity.

Remember back when hardware manufacturers wouldn't launch anything until they built up a serious launch quantity?

For my part, apparently Watercool are hand to mouth on their MORA radiators and parts, and they won't even ship foe two weeks, and then they will slowly transit the Atlantic.

So I won't be buying my AM5 CPU for a while yet. When I am ready, I hope they'll be back in stock. If not, I may be forced to just get the cheapest AM5 SKU I can find just to get the system up and running temporarily.

Even something like a Ryzen 5 7600 might perform better in STALKER2 than my Threadripper 3960x at this point :/

So, I totally forgot it was Black Friday today, and accidentally went to MicroCenter to get an adapter.

That was a mistake.

That said, on a positive note, they actually had 9800x3d's in stock when I was there. I briefly considered picking one up for later, but decided against it. I'm not quite ready yet.

It seems like after the end of Black Friday they still have "25+" in stock at my store (Cambridge, MA) so maybe availability will be OK for these going forward after all.

I wonder if they were just saving up for Black Friday to put them out on the shelves.

Yeah, Microcenter. That mythical mecca that's at least a 7+ hour drive from where I live. Happy for those lucky folks who get to enjoy being able to shop there.

My nearest MicroCenter is in either Minneapolis, Denver, or San Jose and the trip would involve multiple flights to get there. Yeah, I'm a little envious for those that have them. But it always seems to turn out that when I'm close enough to easily visit one, I don't really have a need to go.

For me it would be Denver and the same. While I do have family about an hour away I just don't want to make a trip to see them and then disappear to go shopping. My younger days that would've happened but these days time is too precious to be spent that way.

I've thought about it on the rare occasion I'm down in LA - there is one in Orange County. But the traffic is so bad down there I never want to spend one minute longer in that **** place than I have to, and OC is in the opposite direction of home.

I didn't know they were opening one in San Jose - although that isn't a whole lot better than LA really. Other than I'm over about an hour south of there for a job site somewhat more frequently than I am down in LA.

Maybe the next time I'm in for a wholesale rebuild I'll make the pilgramage.

We were finally blessed with one in Charlotte. It's about 35 minutes away from me. I still don't like going to it since it's in the middle of the ghetto. And I mean ghetto, like, I'm not going there without other people with me and we're all armed.

I guess I'm just lucky jy I've had one of the first microcenters since they originally opened. Just no fancy remodel for it because it's always busy.

I've been lucky to live near a Microcenter, but I have to admit, I rarely buy any major components there.

It's mostly where I go when I am in the middle of a build and need a cable or other adapter I didn't anticipate.

When they put in a water cooling section it was amazing. It really helped me in my water cooling builds as I could just go there and browse through the bitspower fitting/bend bins looking for something that would work mid build, and not have to order stuff, wait for it to arrive and return stuff that didn't work.

I have no issue buying parts from microcenter. They have good selection. Extremely competitive pricing. And an in store warranty program that's top of the line.

The nearest one for me is almost 2 hours away. The wife and I went there a few times and I bought a few things, but I would save my time and gas by just ordering online. Like you mentioned the older I get the more down time I enjoy which is precious to me, especially as of late.

My popz and I used to have to drive hours to get to a Micro Center. Extremely happy when the local CompUSA closed and Micro Center moved in. That's about 20min from me. Now they are all over my state. I wish others were so fortunate.

Same. Although I have clients who like to shop for major components there. They do price matching with any online retailer. And they don't pay too close attention... one of my clients used the non-factory-OC'ed version of a 7900 XTX to get Micro Center to price match on one that IS factory overclocked!

For me and several friends, all of our last several CPU purchases have been from Micro Center, cuz they usually always had the cheapest prices. My 5930K was nearly $100 cheaper at Micro Center! I also bought my current case from there. Brick-and-mortar stores are handy for being able to see components in person and gets hands-on with them. Like with how convenient @Zarathustra said Micro Center is for grabbing watercooling components.

Actually for the last few years, Micro Center has been sending me a ridiculous amount of vouchers for free flash drives or MicroSD cards. Most of the time I go to Micro Center it's just to get those. It's one of the main things that gets me outta the house these days, hahahaha! I mean I usually handle other errands while I am out, and get some food too while I'm at it. The flash drives and MicroSDs are cheap and I wouldn't trust them long-term, but I have a sh1t-ton of them now. I even give them out like Halloween candy to friends and family. Not sure what Micro Center gets outta it, cuz I don't usually buy anything else (except the occasional BAWLS). Basically they're trying to get me into the store to see if I buy something, and I almost never do.

Anyways Micro Center doesn't replace online shopping for me, but it complements it. It's a good backup option to have. I really wish everyone in the USA had easy, quick access to a Micro Center. You never know when that sh1t will come in handy.

Micro Center is probably pretty handy right about now, with Amazon workers being on strike, and Newegg not being a worthwhile place to buy from for the last decade+.

Yea I was into Microcenter well before J2C and others started doing promotions for them. But it's still nice to see.

If we had these stores over here I would definitely consider them, they usually have some decent budle deals from what I have seen.
