Recent speculation regarding the next Xbox, aka Project Helix, hints at a rather expensive but powerful gaming console with a graphics solution performing at an xx70 or xx80 level. So a new report from Fortune (via VideoCardz) has a lot to unpack, the least of which is a rumored price tag ranging from $1,200 to […]

Given that the current RTX 5080 can go for upwards of $2K, a console price tag of upwards of $1,800 seems probable, but hopefully Microsoft is able to find ways to bring that down to a more budget-friendly target.

what is a "budget-friendly target" ?

how would xbox be able to attain that 🤔🤔🤔

good question, while most want under $1k, I'm thinking it would be the magic number that could still see a large amount of sales. I'd say its a virtual impossibility of be under for eithe MS or Sony at this point but ultimately it all comes down to what the market will bear.

Well if it has windows 11 and open, will probably be the cheapest gaming pc to buy.

that will be an additional licensing cost to unlock windows

out of the box it will be xbox but with a few curated stores such as epic & pc xbox

Rumor has it they're considering everything except COD and Fallout to be exclusive down the road.

what exclusives?
AFAIK, everything available for Xbox will be available on PC.
They mean console exclusives. As in, Microsoft is planning on no longer releasing games on PS5. In fact they already started, cuz I don't think Gears of War: E-Day is coming to PS5. But yeah Microsoft intends to keep shipping their games on PC.

Yeah, this. Microsoft's IPs will probably go back to not being on Sony consoles.

Instead of making IPs console exclusives, why not just release the IP on the competitor console as a basic version (no high quality graphics mode)? Then they make money and the gamers get to experience something they otherwise couldn't without buying a new console. For the few who love the game too much after finishing it, they can buy the console to experience the game in all its glory. Such games could act as trojans to lure gamers from other consoles.

Console folks would do well to recall the PS3 when thinking about pricing what the market will bear.

It is not an infinite well you can draw from, especially when the competition is stiff

I think most will sell a kidney than to be without, like an iphone.

that’s what Sony thought too, and Microsoft proceeded to eat their lunch for several years. And the Wii became the biggest selling console ever despite potato technical capability.

Also don’t forget MS and nV are still trying to push “your smart TV is a console just let us run ads while you stream a game” crap.

And most of Gen Z and younger won’t put down their phones long enough to pick up a console controller. They will throw 3 large at a iPhone Duo no problem, but not an Xbox.

Perfect timing for Infinium Labs to stage their triumphic return.

Too add to the example above, Nintendo 3DS. At launch it was priced way too high. I seem to recall Nintendo admitting that they priced it that high cuz they thought they could get away with it. They were wrong. Most weren't touching the thing. Then they lowered the price to something that was closer to what it probably should've been to begin with, and then it finally started moving serious units. The buying masses are not the brightest bunch, but even they can be pushed too far when it comes to pricing. Especially in these modern times when the cost of everything in life has gone up just a bit too much. Gas, groceries, all that sh1t. The middle class is disappearing. It'll really be interesting to see where PS6 and the next Xbox fall in terms of pricing.

Like look at what is happening with fast food. Those business have lost a lot of sales cuz the prices no longer make fast food a cheap, easy, quick decision. Now it gives people h3lla pause. Now you can go to Costco or Sam's Club a get a whole large great-tasting rotisserie chicken for less than the price of a decent fast food meal, and that sh1t will last you a week.
