Sometimes when RNG just provides an eyebrow raising outcome ...
I've been playing The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall again recently. I did a long and involved quest for the Fighter's Guild wherein I was supposed to bodyguard a named NPC, but assassins got to him first. The quest turned into a detective mystery and I had to track down the leader of the local assassin guild. Long story short, the assassins laid a trap using one of the deceased's family members as bait. /shrug ... the local assassins were no match for my character; it's not that my character is OP or anything, just the trap location didn't favor the assassin mode of melee combat vs. my destruction spells flung from a safe distance above them.
So I get the reward ... a random piece of equipment ...

(not judging ... the statement just ... raises more questions than seemingly necessary.)
