There is a rumor that Konami could unveil plans for re-releasing the original games along with a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake at E3 2023. Konami delisted the original games in 2021 as it had to renew licenses for archival footage used in them. It later updated in 2022 plans to bring them back as part of its 35th anniversary so these re-releases are anticipated. Andy Robinson of VGC has stated that Konami is expected to make an announcement for both at this year's E3 2023 or possibly around that time and that the remake is planned for 2024 release.

Doubt is being cast on whether Konami plans to attend E3 2023 as a growing list of publishers have been pulling out of the event. IGN has reported that Nintendo, Xbox, Sony, Ubisoft, and now Sega and Tencent have all reported they will not be attending the event. Rumors about the remake have been making rounds for some time so the real question is simply when it will be announced and released and not if it's actually in the works.
