Luke Skywalker without Mark Hamill? Han Solo without Harrison Ford? All of this seems like a crazy idea, but giving the Star Wars universe a completely fresh start is exactly what the franchise needs, according to director Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn, who's best known for directing X-Men: First Class, Kick-***, and all of the Kingsman films, brought the idea up during the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, stating that if he was given the chance, he'd reboot Star Wars, explaining that there's no reason why the characters couldn't be changed, similar to James Bond and Batman, which have had different actors over the years. "Rebooting is what I would do," Vaughn, who's doing exactly that for the next Kick-*** movie, said.

No he is **** wrong. At least to me. What it needs is to cannonize parts of the expanded universe and bring those continuing stories to the screen, big or small. There is a TON of available content that can be made very good. They just need to step up and do it. I don't care of it's with Ray swapped for the younger version of Luke or Digiluke...

It needs to die, like the hotel.
Something about beating dead horses and sleeping dogs or some such.
Jesus, at this point i will take new ANYTHING else tbh.

Honestly, Star Wars needs to die off for about 10 years and then the franchise needs a hard reset. In this political climate, I wouldn't want to see a total reboot either. Plus, if and when its rebooted it would have to be done very carefully. Keeping to the spirit of the original but having the balls to change things.

Except they already did reboot with the Rey trilogy and it sucked. It needs a new direction.... or maybe an old direction, go back to the Old Republic?

Honestly though to me we have been bashed over the head with a lot of very mediocre SW for the last decade+. Might be time to give it a rest for a while, but we know that won't happen as long as Disney still loves money.

Also... please not an Ashoka movie. I have been pretty underwhelmed with it. Some things were better off as cartoons.

I was thinking "treats the fans like an ATM machine" - but yeah, this works too.
Well, they are getting less and less out of fans, that's the reason they don't even have a plan for a new movie yet. As they are scrambling to find out what to do. But they drove away the creatives from Hollywood to replace them with activists and yes men, so there is nobody there who could save Star Wars.

Some say Star Wars just needs a pause. It is effectively been on pause for 4 years now at the movies. And there is nothing even in pre-production yet. So best case scenario they could release something in 2026.

At this point, pretty much every new series or movie already feels like some kind of reboot.

I might be wrong, but I think the sure fire aspect of the garbage (superhero, and rehashes) they been pumping is now gone.
Everything is a risk, just like its supposed to be.
This might be a good thing for new blood and new ideas.

It has become corporatized. Hollywood used to be the playground of eccentric producers. Plus I still fully believe it has become a money laundering scheme. Movies cost 10 times more to make and they look 10 times worse than before. This only make sense if the money is just being funneled through it and not actually spent on production costs.

People are expecting too much out of these latest films. They want so much for them to be like the original films which they are not. Enjoy/not enjoy them for what they are. I agree they need to go back to the drawing board on some of their film projects, but some of the series I have enjoyed.

I admit that sometimes I too expect too much from them but then I try to have a more open mind about it only for the next scene to push me further away. I don't hate it all and have absolutely found things I like in almost everything that's come out in the last decade but I will say that, more often than not, it feels like I'm watching people "playing Star Wars", like kids in the playground, than watching actors portray a character that's engaged in a story. Sort of fun but not what I'm really after.

I still watch, even when I say I won't, but it's not something I can usually come away from and want to tell other people to get into.

I believe we are about the same age Peter, and we grew up in a different era for sure. Things just aren't the same no matter how much we would like them to be, and it's just a dose of reality I guess. I try not to sound old, but I can understand the older generation now that I didn't grasp growing up. They would always say "it's not built like it used to be", and they were right. Everything now is just based on entitlement, and quick entertainment. Hence why a lot of these Marvel and Star Wars series are so short. They are made for a short fix and then on to the next. I've just grown accustomed to enjoy them for what they are because no matter how hard I want them to be like the older movies that just isn't going to happen. Hopefully that changes at some point.

As a fellow oldie (49) I think you're wrong here. The movies themselves are told as individual stories but with broader tie ins. The problem is everyone saw Disney gamble and win big with Marvel. Now everyone is trying to replicate what they did rather than just make good movies. For a long time the only tie in between marvel series was the post credit scenes. Then they tried to lump every character into every movie. And it got a bit stupid.

Marvel movies need to be GOOD without that tie in to the broader franchise FIRST. Only then if they are well and truly good and successful do you bridge that gap.

I think they could make good movies about Marvel stuff if they stopped trying to include everyone in every thing!

And Jeremy Renner totally needs to be an old man batman sort of character going forward. Works with his injuries too. (just occurred to me.)

I can still remember watching Iron Man... and I was like... ok the actor and this character just FIT each other. They down played his chemical dependency in the movies but it's supposed to be a part of the the character. And it was a part of the actor as well. Hence... a great fit. The actor understood the character.

Now everyone is too **** worried about if actor A believes person B is a man without a penis rather than are they good for the freaking role.

We are tired of reboots, remakes, spin-offs, prequels and sequels. But especially "cinematic universes".
Movies should not be like the original, they should be original. This is why the only thing I'm mildly excited for in years is Rebel Moon.

And I reject the "enjoy it for what it is" platitude. Most movies these days are garbage, and I don't enjoy garbage.

"Demon in a bottle" story line. One of my Iron Man comic favorites. We can agree to disagree as well. Nobody will be happy (some are never happy) with everything that comes out and I will say there are some lackluster movies/series being made in both SW and Marvel. I wish they would stick to the story lines in the Marvel comics I grew up with, but that won't happen. ✌️

Any word on that one?
What do you mean word? I'm not particularly a fan of Snyder but at least it's something new and not a derivate of a derivate in a tired franchise. The trailer didn't show any red flags, so we'll see.
