The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has published the official specifications for USB4, clearing the way for potential devices next year. The latest version of the industry standard offers a transfer rate of 40 Gbps over USB Type-C, which is double that of USB 3.2.
Mixing of multiple data and display protocols is supported. USB4 is also backward compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3.
The development of the USB4 specification was first announced in March 2019 by the USB Promoter Group. It is now officially published by USB-IF and available for download at www.usb.org.
