Xbox Games Showcase 2025 Highlights: ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X Revealed, Xbox Play Anywhere, Clockwork Revolution, and More

This is attractive... but better than steam OS? Would love to see a side by side. Same hardware. 1 with steam os and 1 with the modified Xbox windows os.

I am excited. This could incentivize AMD, Intel & Nvidia to produce new hardware (tailored towards handhelds)

Yeah, pretty exciting development. I picked up a ROG Ally for the Gamepass access, but ended up not resubscribing to Gamepass and just installing Bazzite because Windows was a pain to use on a handheld (a 'sleep mode' mishap nearly cooked my Ally).

I'm not really feeling the urge to upgrade my ROG Ally for a 'Xbox Ally' - the Z2E isn't that big of an upgrade over the Z1E, but I'll for sure give the new Xbox Fullscreen Experience a try.

I just wish Microsoft would open up the new software for alpha testing, they're planning on shipping the updates to other handhelds in 2026, so I'm hoping there will be a sign up at some point to test the new software.

I'm guessing the 'Series' hardware is pretty much in its endgame, I didn't see the entirety of the showcase, but didn't hear much about new features for the existing hardware or new models (besides the ROG Xbox Ally). I was really hoping we'd hear about MS opening up access to Steam on the Series hardware, but that will remain a dream (for now).

I'm not sure console makers are thrilled about it (particularly Sony). Consoles have a long life span, but we already have 2nd generation portables from several manufacturers and 3rd generation are coming soon.

I think MS will transition into a licensing model, having several builders make their own designs and sticking the Xbox label. There is no sign the Ally Xbox will actually run native Xbox games (at least not yet) so most probably be a game pass console which will also run epic and steam games.

STEAM is opening its STEAM OS too and is already incorporating it in competing consoles.

That leaves sony not in the best position, the PS6 will surely be a powerhouse, but it could take just a few years for portable consoles to catch up. More so if Intel/nvidia jump into mobile console bandwagon.

BTW I'm pretty sure the so called "Xbox experience" is just using Xbox Game pass as a shell.

It's a bit more than that in the I dunno I'll call it big screen mode, it's tuned for controllers, works better, uses less ram and CPU/power in normal function and in sleep mode.

While there's no explicit mention of it, it's clear the device won't run xbox Series X/S games natively, only from streaming.
