  1. Intel Core i7-12700K vs AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Performance Review

My previous system was a 5800x and I just upgraded to a 12700k a month or so ago. For my use cases there's not much difference performance wise but I was having some stability issues recently with the 5800x build. In hindsight it may have been bios related as all the components seem to be...
  2. Watch Dogs Legion Ray Tracing and DLSS RTX 30 Performance

I've been concerned about the 8gb on 3070 and you're testing helps confirm it's already a problem... I figured if the new consoles have 16gb, games are likely to exceed 8gb usage in common scenarios. If I remember right the new xbox caps you at 10gb fast, 6gb slow, which should make the 3080...
  3. Report: Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) Launching on November 10

I'm sure there's a market for the S for people with less money and casual gamers. The cpu and storage speed upgrades will make it a good experience vs last gen and if you have a 1080p TV or you're sitting on the couch it'll probably be fine. I think the bigger issue is that Sony has better...
  4. Rumor: AMD’s “Big Navi” Sits between the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080

Hopefully big Navi has 16gb of ram and AMD's version of DLSS is respectable. Otherwise I think they're not likely to sell well.
  5. AMD Mid-Range Gaming PC Build Guide: Summer 2020

For the 3600x system I'd go b450 with a smaller psu (500-550W) and get a bigger nvme drive or add a standard hdd. 500gb total storage is not much for home pc. Games like Destiny 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, Fortnite, Call of duty etc are up to 100GB each. The Western digital black (vs blue) is...
  6. Sony Unveils the DualSense: PlayStation 5’s Wireless, Two-Toned Controller with Haptic Feedback

Looks like an Xbox one controller in shape and angles. I'm glad they added a mic. I hope the next Xbox adds a mic to the controller as well. For Netflix and passwords and stuff. I know they had Kinect but once it was unbundled you lost that.
  7. Crytek Engineer Claims PS5 Beats Xbox Series X In Every Way, but Retracts Statements Due to “Personal Reasons”

pretty much. it's all speculation. the hardware is nearly identical and having a 10gb/6gb split hardly seems like a big deal... game developers already manage system ram and vram for pc. The other arguement about DX12 being more complicated probably doesn't matter either as pc and xbox one...
  8. Larian Studios Debuts World-Exclusive Gameplay Footage of Baldur’s Gate 3 at PAX East

combat looks like xcom, which is fine. Definitely interested in this one.
  9. Apple Dumping Intel Next Year? Mac with ARM Processor Releasing in 2021, Says Analyst

Won't be the end of the world. As others mentioned, I'd probably start with the air and light laptops. I'm not sure if apple has full on chipsets with lots of I/O for their ARM parts but that shouldn't matter for the small laptops and there are third party solutions to those problems. The...
  10. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/3070 Specifications Allegedly Leaked: Up to 20 GB of GDDR6 Memory

It's interesting that's for sure. Based on the shader counts it seems like these new parts won't necessarily be faster than a 2080 ti for classic gaming, depending on clocks, architecture enhancements, etc. I'd guess that a GA102 titan/ti part may be coming later. What that means for pricing...
  11. ASUS Debuts 4K/144Hz HDR1000 Monitor with DSC

43" is a big monitor. Does anybody use one that big for work? Is it super awkward? I use a 24-32-24 arrangement right now.
  12. Micron Begins Sampling DDR5 RAM: Next Generation of Memory Is 85% Faster Than DDR4

It should be a a good thing for high core count Ryzen's (vs threadripper with 4 channels). Probably good for IGP's as well.
  13. Use a NUC 9 Extreme to Stream from Your PC within a PC

If the host pc can't communicate over pci-e that lowers the value proposition further. I'm struggling to think of a reason it's worth buying unfortunately.
  14. Alienware May Release Portable Gaming Device

i wonder if steam's big picture mode would work well on a handheld. I feel like it should. I'm not sure about the rest of windows, uplay, origin, etc.
  15. AMD Launches Mobile Ryzen 4000, Radeon RX 5600 and Threadripper 3990X at CES

It's too bad it's still Vega and not Navi but it's very good news for their laptop endeavors. Hopefully it's a drop in replacement and maybe the 15" surface can get updated sooner than later.
  16. NVIDIA’s 7 Nm Ampere GPUs Will “Boost Performance by 50% and Halve Power Consumption”

It's could be 50% faster assuming they're using the smaller node to add 50% more transistors. Could also be 50% faster at something specific (eg ray tracing). Both 50% faster and 30% lower power in a general sense seems unlikely.
  17. PlayStation 5 May Not Have Hardware-Based Ray Tracing and Variable Rate Shading

Without knowing whether AMD's hardware and software implementations of RT are significantly faster than what's currently available it's hard to say whether it's a problem. Not having VRR is unfortunate.
  18. J.J. Abrams Speaks about People’s Reactions to Star Wars

Exactly how I feel. Same with Rogue One. Yeah it needed more character development and whatnot, but it respects the source material.
  19. Plex Launches Free, Ad-Supported Movie/TV Streaming Service with Thousands of Titles

I've been using Plex for free for years. Works much better than serviio or VLC with the apple tv 4th gen and 4k. No idea if this streaming service will go anywhere but I like their software.
