Speaking with Yahoo Finance, AMD CEO Lisa Su didn’t leave any doubt in anyone’s mind about what kind of company AMD is when she put her cards on the table by saying that “We are a data center first company”. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the tides have been turning for decades […]

Yep, the writing has been on the wall for some time but many overlooked it in trying to perceive them as the underdog needing support from consumers to stay alive.

- They are very much the underdog in literally every market they're in. Not sure consumers need to form a parasocial relationship with a company however, just go with whoever gives you the right product for the best price.

It sucks but that's where the money is for the forseeable future.
As long as they don't kill the semi-custom group there's always a path forward for gaming products.

Based on the guidance from both companies, AMD is projected to earn more revenue than Intel for the first time in history, when this Q is over. Intel is currently far more reliant on client than AMD, and that's becoming a dystopian sci-fi flick called the Incredible Shrinking PC Market rated R for rekt. :p

I truly believe AMD and NVIDIA should spin off the Radeon and GeForce divisions at this point.
Or at least the consumer GPU divisions. Keep the enterprise ones to themselves and milk them all they want.

It's not hard to do. Games don't run on CUDA. Radeon cards don't really need ROCm. Disable these workloads on gamer cards via driver or firmware. Problem solved.

Id say that wouod make sense, just make pure ai and pure graphics division, perhaps a division that coordinates all 4, x86, arm, ai, graphics.
I dont know about separate companies though, dont see the point.

I know a lot of us are hoping for the bubble to burst, and it's definitley spewing some leaks right now but we all know that nobody will completely abandon such enormous investments. They'll do whatever it takes to rework the money flow to reduce losses and more than a few of us have already seen a future where hardware will depend on cloud-based support to provide premium features; i.e. we're probably on a path for GPUs that depend on cloud options to provide next-gen features while they reduce the amount of hardware in a graphics card. It's a horrible concept, but this writing is also on the wall and whether provided in an APU/integrated solution or dGPU, it's almost inevitable. You think the you don't own what you purchased was bad, well, we ain't seen nothing yet. :(

Just to add that those of us providing support on enterprise levels have seen this for decades already. Purchase hardware that requires some kind of subscription level service in order to "unlock" various features. It's only a matter of time, and I truly believe sooner than later and before 2030, for consumer products. Apple and MS have been just waiting to roll it out and our current component shortages have presented the perfect opportunity and AMD/NVIDIA are assuredly just watching for the ideal moment to do the same.
