Staff at Epic Games have reportedly been told that they are to use generative AI to create all art for an upcoming Disney shooter title featuring characters from Marvel and Star Wars. As reported by Bloomberg (via VGC), Epic’s developer teams were instructed to go full-on AI-first in a video call last week. The move […]

Seriously, who the actual f*ck is this Epic?! They are completely unrecognizable from the Epic Games that made the first 3 Gears of War games, let alone true original Epic MegaGames. I would say that I won't ever spend a penny on their products ever again, but I haven't even paid them money for a game since probably Gears of War 3. But they care not, cuz they don't even sell video games, they only have two real products: Unreal Engine 5, and Fortnite. Both make them a sh1tload of money. Although no one should be using crappy-@ss Unreal Engine 5. But TV/movie production studios use it now, so that's even more licensing money coming in.

Tim Sweeney went off the deep end long ago. I prefer John Carmack leaving the industry completely than Sweeney staying in the industry but turning into whatever the f*ck weird-@ss creature he is today.

Epic is a f*cking joke now, but they still get to exist and be financially successful, while poor id Software, who still makes actual real video games, and designs and optimizes engines the way it should be done, was used and abused by Bethesda then Microsoft, before being basically gutted, and all but ceasing to exist. Apparently the play with Asha Sharma is to gut and basically destroy one of the most technologically-advanced studios in the entire game industry, who shipped 3 successful games with standout technology in the past decade. Great plan there lady. Can't wait to see what you do next.

I think Epic started going downhill the moment they launched Fortnite and the Epic Game Store. It was all downhill from then on.

Well I mean cookie cutter game was getting cookie cutter assets anyway.
Could it flop, yes, likely not due to AI graphics.
You think madden would get worse if they use AI?
Well i mean you already playing with AI generated stuff, it is called DLSS, its just downstream.
AI content will take over, in excess too.
Its already annoying in social media videos and stuff, soon it will be unrecognizable...and the false flag is coming... An ai video will be pushed hard, some kind of atrocity, only to be revealed to be AI, this will be an intelligence operation to widely discredit independent reporting, you will see, its just logical.

I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if this move was driven as much by Disney as it is Epic.

AI trained on actual Disney art (with access to legal copyrighted work) would probably create some decent results and give Disney information on how to replace their own artists, or at least produce results faster going forward.

Assume one who watched a few apps be vibe coded in days.. It is impressive to see. Still risky as all get out mind you!

I have never been a fan of AI, but I figured I was doing myself a disservice by not learning to use it, so I set up a couple of local models to play with and learn on. I figure by doing this I avoid the worst problems of privacy, and also don't give any of the big AI companies any money.

I have an instance of Laguna S 2.1 (118B Q4_K_M) running on CPU the server. It's too big to fit in GPU memory, but it is surprisingly capable for coding, so I keep it running slowly on the server CPU, which I can get away with only because of the 8x channels of RAM giving me much greater RAM bandwidth than on a consumer system. (and LLM performance is all about RAM bandwidth)

I have on a few occasions brainstormed ideas and come up with requirements and a project plan on my faster model running on GPU (Gemma4:26B Q8_0) and when I think I get it to a decent enough place then feed the plan to the Laguna model, have it refine the plan, review it one last time and then tell it to write code.

I've only done this for some python scripting for server maintenance thus far, but I have been quite surprised at how well it often "just works", especially since I am not a programmer and don't really know what I am doing.

Occasionally there is some troubleshooting when the code is written, and that's where it gets a bit time consuming.

I need to figure out how to give the models a working folder so I don't have to constantly copy and paste things back and forth between the chat and my running environment. That is the big time suck right now. Because running the model on CPU is slow, the cycle of testing, modifying and testing again takes a lot of time. If I could set up a working folder, I could just let it do it's thing in the background more easily. I played with this a little bit but ran into some troubles getting it to work.

As far as risks go, I think the key is to be cautious about where you use it, and what the risks in those applications are, and not just blindly trust the output, instead being smart about it.

Right now I have it writing a manual sensor-based fan control loop for one of my servers, and it seems to be working pretty well.

I want to do that at some point too but haven't gotten into it that much yet.

Hopefully these help?
