Anandtech Sails Off Into the Sunset

I used to look at them for reviews years ago, but honestly forgot that they were still around.

At a time they focused a lot on servers, then they mostly switched to mobile/apple stuff. They stopped doing video card reviews ages ago.

For a long time they were the TO GO site for tech articles. Be it GPUs/CPUs/mobos/storage, etc. That was the main reason I went there in the first place.

Today no one really does in depth tech reviews anymore, except maybe Ars Technica.

They join the list of the fallen.

Sharky Extreme
NvNews
[H]ardOCP
The Firing Squad
TheTechReport

And many more I can't even remember.

Did you know that I worked on Sharky Extreme for a brief time, yeah, nobody remembers that, but pepperidge farm remembers

Was it you that had the hot rod car stuff going on on those? It's been 20 years and I can barely remember yesterday........

Honestly a lot of this changes are about a deep erosion of trust, i am talking media / news in general, its all in disarray. This happens when so many people would rather listen to joe six pack reports than anything else, and if joe six pack screws up hidden interest style , rinse and repeat, or people will listen to nothing.
Its not about internet or social media, back when I had a measure of trust for 'cable news' i had no problem with it on you tube or whatever, now, I wont touch it no matter where they want to shove it. Funny at work tv was ALWAYS on the news, but that changed, i think somewhat slowly for the las 4? Years or so, and I can say, now its really never on the news, anything else but news.
Trust has been eroded, deeply, i dont think it can come back, and media 'giants' as well as adjecent markets like game reporting growth real organic growth, will not really happen. Sure, they will keep shoveling money, faking numbers and bs like this, there is no choice really, they will buy each other, launder money, rig algos, so on, it wont matter too much i think, without trust, which been squandered, you got nothing.

Sort of goes with this.

Yeah "left" they were laid off, due to an ever dwindling readership. That's what 10 years of lecturing, gaslighting and attacking your own audience (and the industry) gets you.

They literally bit the hand that was feeding them. And the only survivors are weasels like Jason Schreier or Paul Tassi who have weaseled their way into a non-gaming outlet where it doesn't matter if gamers don't resonate with the nonsense they're peddling. Bloomberg or Forbes doesn't live off of gaming, so they can continue poison pilling an already ruined industry.

Real journalism died a long time ago. Now it's basically click farming with sensationalistic headlines and out of context reporting to fit a narrative. Telling 50% of the truth to portray something a certain way is not telling a lie, which allows them to get away with it free from lawsuits.
