IBM is the first company in the world to successfully develop a chip with 2-nanometer (nm) nanosheet technology. The tech giant confirmed the achievement in a press release published today, which projected that the new process would allow for 45 percent higher performance (or 75 percent lower energy use) than today’s most advanced 7 nm chips. Other benefits of 2 nm that were noted by IBM include faster laptops, higher battery life for smartphones, reduced carbon footprint of data centers, and faster object detection and reaction time in autonomous vehicles.
