Facebook user data continues to be a difficult thing to keep private. Evidently we are still finding out more information about data exposure from the Cambridge Analytica event of 2018. That fun episode exposed over 400 million users data.

Techcrunch has now reported that a lesser known feature can also expose user phone numbers. By linking that info to the FB ID number someone is able to match a name to the phone number. In an age where most people may retain a phone number for years or decades this can put users at risk for a number of phone related exploits.

The good news is that this is somewhat old news. It all related to features that were turned off or removed after the Cambridge Analytica event. Unfortunately the damage has been done. If you believe you may have been one of those compromised you might want to get that number changed to avoid spam calls or potential SIM-swap attacks.
