# NVIDIA Halves DLSS 5 Performance Cost with Major October Update

NVIDIA significantly improves DLSS 5 efficiency with a new 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model that's 2X faster, reducing GPU overhead by half while maintaining visual quality. The update debuts in NBA 2K27.

Glad to hear about progress happening, but I think the jury's still out on power consumption. Can't wait to try the official implementation in Hogwarts on November 5. I spent a few weeks tinkering with the unofficial auto-inject solutions, and while I did see some impressive results, I got tired of all the extra tinkering needed to rein in the extra power draw or balance things out to minimize FPS drops.

I think it's a sort of cool technology, but I would be much happier if it could be used to improve a game's assets pre-render instead of post-render.

Sort of like a compiling shades process?

Yep, but would create a backup/rename the original assets folder and create a new one for the upgraded files.
I wonder if that would be a more intense workload... but really I do like this implementation method. And when new drivers come out it restores the original, Looks for updates, checks dev file tags for DLSS5 desired metadata tags, Backs up originals, creates new updates, Launches game.

Yes it takes up more disk space but then your DLSS5 enhanced package is just there.

Problems...

1. For Nvidia, people could run this algorithm and potentially distribute the updated implementations to other users. meaning DLSS benefits wouldn't be JUST tied to Nvidia product or generations.

2. Disk space cost of course.

3. Non uniform appearance and potential for different experiences based on DLSS5 modifications for users. (Of course this is a risk with current DLSS5 as well.)

4. Impact on systems/cards/hardware. Is this going to simply over drive the cards for the runs to achieve MAX SPEED or will it be throttled in drivers in some fashion? (Honestly I would hope for the latter.)
